The last one is a picture of the infamous papaver somniferum AKA: The opium poppy, one of the most controversial flowers in the world. Enjoy the pictures.

This thread is going nowhere fast, please can we get it back on track. Why grow poppies doesn't matter as long as it doesn't involve talk of methods of use as stated in the Posting guidelines

Now back to about growing poppies.....

Almost impossible to screw it up mexicanstoner. Once they germ, they literally require zero attention from the grower . Just sit back and watch those babies bloom.

I'll join the flailing....I just want to say it's funny that if this wasn't a board specifically for Medicinal Marijuana.... a growth discussion would no big deal. I lived in a state as some of you probably do that the Poppy was it's State flower..

I would have never thought of this as a topic for trouble but now I see the difficulties. Hm...ignorance IS bliss

Really? I thought they were supposed to be harder to grow than weed

I attempted to grow some before, and I did some research through google to fond out they require LOTS of sunlight about 15-20 hours of sunlight (true?). Then there was the whole thing of just trying to get my hands on some seeds. Most seeds they sell, such as ones they sell at the grocery store are sterilized or won't germ. My grow spot gets a good 10-12 hours of direct sunlight a day, is it suitable for poppies? And where can I get my hand on some seeds that will actualy germinate?

California poppy != a real poppy.

Poppies require 12/12 to grow 18/6 to flower.
