I live in AZ... Hotter than the hell here. I just bought a house here, and my soon to be wife has a couple sick looking citrus trees that we are wanting to plant in the front yard. Will they do well with a desert landscape around them and on the east side of the house? And how might I go about fixing the issues they have? The leaves are yellowings and curling under. Even the green ones are curling under on the Lemon tree. The orange tree is looking light green and wilted down alot. I am not a green thumb. I have VERY little experiance with growing plants, so I am clueless. How do I water them? I am pretty sure the soil here is pretty clayish so the absorbtion rate is slow. Once I have a clure about what I can do for them I will start to dig the holes to plant them in. Oh and she has had them in these pots for a couple years now. Think they are in 2 gal pots so I am sure the roots are bound... Hope no issues with them. Thanks for the help in advance.

I'm pretty familiar with Arizona as I spent a few years there building some power plants. I know the soil won't support you trees, you will have to dig out a large hole for a soil mixture to even the soil out. Water of course should be dripped as most everything there is. The east side is your best bet I would consider some trellis or shade on the west side too. The heat can of course be bad as hell...but it's the dry air and winds that will damage your growth the most. I have seen people put misters in their gardens. If you live north it's not as bad but still dry, Phoenix of Tuscon area and the heat is on. Now as for the health problems I'm not much of a tree grower since I live in a part of the world with the exact same weather you have. As for planting with desert growth, it should be fine...just different water consumption. HTH

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I know this is a bit old but.... I was out in Mesa, AZ for a job interview about 20 years ago. After the interview I walked around abit (sight seeing) and there were orange trees everywhere! The people's yards were littered with fallen oranges, the kids after school were throwing them at each other as they walked home. So, if you are in The Valley Of The Sun then I think your trees should be fine. I suppose they get a bit more moisture there? No, I didn't get the job... ![]()

They love them, and they grow very well. What's more, I don't think they do anything special for them, as far as care...and they produce fruit! Good Luck! Nelson
