valerian cultivation?
permalink

Help, I have a LOT of valarian but do not know what to do with it.

I know when you purchase valarian it is called valarian root. Do I cut the roots? Do I make a tea? And how do I do this?

I bought this plant about 7 yrs ago and it is like a weed and here I am, years later still wondering 'what do I do with this?"

Thank you

Try Valerian (herb) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wikipdia's not the most reliable source of info but I can't find anything on valarian in my various herb references.

Here's some stuff I found.

Quote:
Parts Used
Dried root.

Typical Preparations
Teas, tinctures and capsules. The chopped herb is combined with St. JohnÍs wort. Valerian powder is mixed with hops and/or lemon balm. Because of its often expressed unpleasant taste, most prefer to take it as a capsule or extract.

Quote:
Boil valerian root in water, cool and use as a wash for sore skin.
Quote:
Fall is when this herb is normally harvested. Preparing the valerian root can be done in several different ways. To help relieve insomnia or anxiety, you can prepare the valerian root into a maceration. Take two tablespoons of the chopped, fresh valerian root and soak it in a cup of cool water for approximately eight hours.
Peace-
OD
