Sorry for the off-topic post, but I was wondering if anyone here has grown jalapeños before? I have a couple plants growing together, they're about 2 months old, and they are about 6 inches high. I know nothing about growing peppers at all, but it looks like they're starting to grow peppers, does anyone know the yield of a jalapeño plant, or how large they're supposed to grow until?

But grown in full sun, the plant will probablly reach Knee High to Waist high before blooming, then it's anybody's guess.. Most plants will supply a very large number of pods. so 1-2 plants should do you unless you are a Suicidal Hot freak..

In the Great Lakes Region and with a well prepared soil I'd get probably a couple of pounds per plant. (This is just a guesstimate. It's hard to say seeing how they ripen and get eaten over the course of a month or longer.) Hope that helps. (BTW, 6" is pretty short for 2 mos IMHO. Are they potted or in the ground?) ![]()

![]() | Yea, they're in a pot, and I've already transferred them from a small pot, to a somewhat larger pot, I'd say about 8" high and 7" diameter. They have little tiny buds popping up on them, and I still have nitrogen rich soil on them, and I've just been putting regular water on them, I have well water, and I only water them when they look like they're drying. Also, they're outside. I think the short height may have to do with the cloudiness over the past couple weeks. I took a measurement a few minutes ago, the plant itself is 8" high.

![]() | I have wooden stakes next to them, and the limbs are starting to turn and hold themselves up around the stakes, I'm growing them in 1/2 soil, I live in Maine, and I'm pulling it from above my septic tank, it's really dark soil, and 1/2 nitrogen rich organic potting soil. EDIT: And yes, I'm a suicidal hot freak, I moved to Maine from Texas, and shit around here isn't even hot. I miss getting green chile from the mexican restaurants and almost crying from the pain in my mouth.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Maybe somebody can clue me in on this. I grow these peppers every year and when we have bad drought (at the end of the growing season) the peppers get much much hotter. Could the lack of water, while in the fruit stage, increase the heat? I have never bought peppers this hot in stores before so either it is my supplier or the lack of water.

Most certainly. Just like lack of water causes grapes to produce higher concentration of sugars, thus making better wine. milagro
