Post Vegetables And Outdoor Hydro...

I saw that post with the Stawberries and had to post my Squash.
I love growers that are also gardeners so i had to jump right in...

I would recommend that anybody with an indoor system, start an outdoor system.

This is my outdoor 4" PVC Thin Film Constant Flow Hydro System...

Here are some Tomatoes, Basil, and Chili Peppers. The Pepers had to be moved for PPM and PH reasons...I think theres a bean in there too..

I'll post the final fruit when it is ready...
If anybody is growing Saphron, i would love to see some photos. I hear its a great fully legal money crop for hydro growers that want to offset their expenses..

C ya

Aymen to that Grower

That is a great little DIY system you have there. I was wanting to do something similar but I grow organically and I have never really given hydro a fair go.

Can you recommend something to grow which is 'forgiving' to a noob hydro grower? Maybe basil would be a good start But I would like to try some chillis

Anyway, keep us updated

Now that is cool! I have got to try that sometime.

So, what is the fluid level in that pipe? Do you drain it periodically or keep fluid in it all the time?

Yes, growing saffron crocuses would be cool. I'm sure other spices would be nice cash crops as well, hmmmm.... Now you have me daydreaming.

Thumbs up Sorry , i lost this thread...

Thank you for the kind words.
Yes, i love this setup.

Its a 4" pipe with a constant flow feed system.

I would set it on a timer, but i am in the south and the sun really beats down on them this time of the year. I have to keep the water flowing.

I have a 5 Gallon bucket placed underground just next to the pipe. I just dug a hole and then threw a board over it with a hole to let the wires and hose pass through.

The pipe is setup on a 1" PVC pipe frame with a Y-Bracket i made at the top to set the pipe on. I can easily go to home depot and get some snap together PVC cuffs and add as many 4" pipes as i like to each side.

I use the small feed lines with small 1/4" shut off valves at the end. I can get away with a smaller pump by closing off flow as need be.

I feed the sprouts through the feeding hoses until the roots touch the bottom of the pipe, then i turn them off as need be and let the 1/2 main feed hose (manifold) run right into the top end of the pipe and it flows down to the bottom and out the drain, back into the res.

I used the plastic Dixie cups because they are deeper than normal Hydro Pots and i am VERY CHEAP!!! I also use HydroClay rocks because again i am cheap and like to re-use them.

I use Hydro-Farm Hydroponics Grow and Bud, cheap ass dry mix to feed. It cost only $12.50 per 1.5 pound box and works very well. I also use my old change water from my indoor garden. Why waiste it.

I have some Strawberry seeds that are just popping. i'll be putting them in this week. I'll get some photos posted.

Just on a personal note.
If you try this you may want to try that 4" Square tubing that they use for vinyl fence posts. Also be sure to run your drill in reverse to keep it from grabbing the PVC. Just reverse it and push it threw. Don't baby it or it will heat up and melt!
