I want to switch over to bloom nutes. The store where i got the Dyna-Gro Grow for some reason doesnt carry the bloom. Dyna-gro grow is the only hydroponic nute the sell too.

I've got a quart of of Pure Blend Original Bloom .5-.5-1. To me that doesnt sound like the correct ratio though. Shouldnt a bloom nute have more Phosphorus than Nitrogen?

I've only used it once before and it gunked up my system with brown sludge that murdered my plants. I believe this was due to a short waterfall and high res temps though, those problems have since been fixed. It seems darker than i remember too, ive only had it a couple months.

Any advice?

Still not seeing any tomatoes, but i havent looked to hard in a couple days. I spaced the plants out, ill post pics later.

not a hydroponic bloom nutrient... hydro plants dont need as much phosphorus.... I've used pure blend pro, and liked it but never the pure blend origional bloom stuff. I do remember a lot of gunk collecting on the sides, i think thats normal.

What a great thread, thanx Art I have wanted to dabble with growing my own tommy-toes, nummm. Your thread has given me some food for thought (hahahahA). I never thought about how to get them pollinated (doh). I believe gardeners use a wire cage to grow tomatoes, as they grow kinda viney and the fruit weigh them down. At the corner garden centre they sell them, like a vertical scrog, hehe. Keep us posted, Hi5

Best shot i could get, this cheap camera does not have a macro mode.

One of those wire tomato cages would have been a good idea. I attached wooden stakes to the sides of the buckets for some support, its working out okay. I think i would have been better off if i kept the plants to a single truss. That way i could train them around the walls and have some more room.

Right now they are big tangled burnt bushes, makes it a pain to move around in there. I cant bring myself to cut them back, i dont know why.

The plants are now 34 days old (i think) not sure if they are behind/ahead of schedule. Hopefully they are many more tomatoes to come.

Ph 5.9 ppm 700

More and more little tomatoes keep popping up . This one is slowly getting bigger and bigger.

I noticed some yellowing on the older growth. Maybe im starving them with such a low ppm, it kind of looks like -Mg to me. But maybe its the calcium in my tap water (275ppm ph 7.0) screwing with things. Tap water has suddenly a strong sulfur smell to it, maybe thats got something to do with it.

Do my nutes have enough Mg in them? I'm in need of some new ones.

Tomatos are voracious feeders, increase the dosage. they will need alot of calcium to prevent blossom end rot. there are many nutrient formulas on the net for the different stages of growth. Hydroponic Nutrient Solution Formula Calculator

Training them to one main leader by removing the suckers is def the way to go in the future. That way you can train them up a string and when they get too tall you just remove the lower leaves and coil the stem on the floor and lower the string to allow more upward growth. Pinching the first flower off each truss also increases fruit size.
