Yes, I've grown from supermarket peppers before, almost all need to be red or almost red to be viable. green peppers, jalapenos, habaneros and serrano all go red eventually. Or some go yellow or orange too. edit: Sorry, yes, dry them a couple weeks, too.

I've managed to germinate seeds I found in an apple before, so I'd imagine with the right conditions the peppers seeds should pop. Actually I've got a bunch of red and green pepper seeds germinating right now, so I'll have a better answer pretty soon.

On the other hand they usually sell packs of seeds at the grocery store, then again you might have to wait for spring for those.

I never got my Jalapeno peppers to grow any peppers with 12/12, I had them in the same room as my MJ and they never "peppered" when the MJ flowered. How do you get them to "pepper"?

I'm not sure about lighting conditions (I hope to experiment once I get clones and more seeds) but I do know that they will not flower if the soil (or water) has too much nitrogen in it.

I ordered some seeds today. I am getting some early jalapeño (done in 1/2 the time) some "normal" jalapeños, and some banana peppers (I love me some stuffed banana peppers).

Sounds tasty. How long do you think the overall grow is going to take?

As long as I can keep them going hydro. I will be taking some clones and putting a few of those clones in dirt. Many people don't realize it but peppers are perennials; you can keep them going for years and years. I have had potted jalapeño pepper plants last 4 years already (I let it get hit by frost in the 5th year and it died on me). One part to this is I plan on experimenting with the length of time you leave a plant in hempy. I figure a pepper plant will be better to experiment with because, well, I won’t be wasting my meds.

I am not sure what did it but between putting the pepper in 12/12 and going with a bloom nuts (less nitrogen is the key) but the plant almost doubled in size in two days; the leaves doubled in size overnight.

I can't believe how big these peppers are getting (the peppers on Sexy Sadie). I have about 6 baby peppers with more forming each day. I should be getting my other pepper seeds Monday or Tuesday and I also got a great greenhouse for seed starting and propagation (only $15 which includes 18 grow plugs). This greenhouse is unique in that the grow plugs are designed to float on the water. This is supposed to force the roots to grow down instead of out.
