Hempy peppers and tomatoes
permalink

Yeah I'm doing hempy pepper and tomatoes. I have some very nice looking plants in those little Dixie cup type pots (peat pots?). The tallest tomato plant is about a foot tall and the only pepper plant is about 5 inches tall. I have no idea about what lighting I will go with (24 hour or 12/12). I did see how to pollinate the tomato plants but I am still unsure about the pepper plants. I have a lot of reading to do but I have some time yet. I will be updating this thread but I probably won't be posting many pictures (I’m lazy).

I just found out that peppers should be grown under HPS lights and need 14-16 hours of light a day. They also need temps in the range of MJ and humidity in the 60s (I'm in the 50s). I have seen that you can grow tomatoes under 24/0 but I didn't see people doing 12/12 yet. Again, I just began to do research as I didn't know I was getting them until my brother walked in 30 minutes ago.

I'm off to transplant them now.

Funny. Just tonight I was reading about hydroponic chilies. It even gives ppms suggested for each element.

Well the pepper plants (I actually had two) are sucking up the water and nutes like nothing I have ever seen. I am having to water every day when I water MJ plants that are twice as high (in the same cups) every other day, if that. I am wondering what I have gotten myself into. I have two tomato and two pepper plants. I found out that these are some form of bell peppers; I was hoping for jalapeño peppers.

Great thread, skierguy, I have a lot more experience with peppers and tomatos than I do with MJ. Before I decided to start growing indoors again, I had toyed with the idea of getting out my old lites and doing tomatos and peppers indoors, just because I love growing things. I will be real interested to see how it goes.

So have you grown them indoors before? I know nothing and I am planning on treating them as MJ the entire way.

No, I said I toyed with the idea, I grow them outdoors, but start them under flourescents indoors from saved and purchased seed, 9 varieties peppers and 4 varieties tomatos this year. They are not too dissimilar, much more ph tolerant than Mj. I think it's a great idea, they are heavy feeders and will pretty much take as much as you want to give them.

I can't wait for my first harvest. I am planning a nice steak with a tomato, pepper, and mozzarella salad with some marijolive oil. I will have a pesto-marijolive oil "sauce" for the steak as well. Happy eating
