i live in Souther California, kinda desert valley area and i was looking for some kind of preferably herb or other plant to add to my small collection, so far i have a ornamental salvia and a catnip plant, i would preffer if it had some kind of use other than cooking, like a mild sedative since i do have a bit of insomnia and cant always rely on MJ to be their when i need it

the weather is very hot and low humidity, with about half sun half shade to full shade depending on where i place it, the average temp will be around 75-85 and going up to over 100 at times

any suggestions would be great

I don't know if its a placebo from drinking chamomile tea at night and being sleepy, but when I find myself without MJ at night, believe it or not the taste of chamomile actually soothes me.

Also, the california poppy is used for insomnia and headaches/pain in children (funny huh? I dont think it has the same alkaloid makeup as *other* poppies, but might be worth looking into)

If you look at an ethnobotanical vendor, you could also look into Wild Dagga, and Sinicuiche, which are both have similiar effects to MJ

i thought California poppies were illegal, if not than that would be a nice option, is their any chance that a plant nursery carry wild dagga, California poppies, or Sinicuiche, or would i have to order them online

California poppies (Eschscholzia californica) are not illegal anywhere.

some skullcap, Scutellaria. you can find seeds online cheap, plus it's said to be a powerful smoke if mixed in with weed. try to find the desert kind, forget what it's called.
also mixed with parrot's beak and elephant's head. check some of them out.

You can actually buy california poppy seeds at lowe's

as far as the Wild Dagga and the Heimia Salicifolia (sinicuiche), those are shamanistic herbs, and unless you have a local shaman supply shop, i doubt you'll be able to buy them locally
