I went out yesterday and got a new bird feeder. Our other one is placed strategically in front of our dinning room widow and has little tiny holes. It is easy enough to move but why. Bag of wild bird food 5.95, bird feeder "big slot" kind 7.95. great investment especially if this idea works. The Garden Store guy thought I was really strange when I told him what I was going to do. He imediatley went toward the pesticides. Even if it does not work now we have bird feeders on both sides of the house thanx. Maybe the jays will stop harrasing the finches, I really like the little purple ones. We get alot more of the yellow ones however.

You can get biological on them with Bacillus thuringiensis sold under trade names of Dipel and Thuricide. It is a bacteria that specifically targets caterpillars. Once ingested the bacteria stops up their gut and they die a horrible. Yeah!!!!

Approved for all vegetables. Won't harm humans or other living creatures (except for those listed on the label).

Thankyou ! I did run into Thuricide on one the sites I visited. Sounds horrible for the catipilars. So does being eaten by a being 100 times your size. Life is rough for a catipilar. If this bird thing works it will be the choice for us. If not thankyou for the alternatives to pesticides, thinking we will pass on the tobacco versions though even smelling it makes me get the hives. Quit 20 years ago two packs a day can't be near the stuff any more

Organic Pest Control and Pesticide: Do it yourself pest control and homemade organic pesticide, natural. heres a few organic homemade remedies. Also i read to order some trichogamma wasp the will lay the eggs on the caterpillars. One on my favorite methods is to buy some habaneros and boil them for a 10 minutes or so and then put water thru a screen and then into a bottle for use.
To be honest though I dont think anything works as well as my index finger and thumb for the little suckers.

The answer to your problem could easily be row covers. You would be surprised at what row covers can do for the brassicas.

Peace- OD

ps... I hope the birds do their thing!

There really is no right way to grow, you have to resonate with a style and learn what you can,
tweak it to your own style and raise the bar each grow... OD '07
