Attempting to Bonsai my new Jade
permalink

I just brought home my new Jade tree. I have been wanting one for a while now. I would really like to make a bonsai out of it. My question is: Is it too early to start pruning? Im not sure how old it is since they grow so slow, but its about 6-8in tall and 8in wide. And also since im trying to bonsai, should I seperate it down to a single stem? After reading that last question it sounds pretty stupid, but i'll leave it.... Thanks for any information!

When making a plant into a bonsai, it is a slow process. Slowly start pruning it down to the shape you want it, doing too much at once can send the plant into shock and kill it. If it doesn't need pruning, start LSTing your tree with electrical wire.

Thank you for your response. I decided to take one cutting that was a stem about the thickness of your pinkie. After reading up on The Bonsai Site. I am going to let the cut calous over and plant it tomarrow or the next day. Should speed up the process a bit if it will root. And plus now I have a nice bushy Jade left over to let get BIG! These things propagate extremely easy. I found a leaf that had fallen off onto the dirt in the pot and it had allready had new growth coming out of the break! Just sitting on the dirt! Man I wish cannabis was the same......
