kratom, salvia, and datura.....

hi everyone...ive got a few plants goin round the house, and just want to get a general overview of what you guys think...ive got a kratom, a salvia, and 2 datura stramoniums..ive searched around the net and everywhere i look all they have is general cultivation stuff. nobody gets in to deep about em....so i come to you..

my daturas just got transplanted and they love it where theyre at. i dont think ill have any problems with them. but any helpful advice on them would be welcome..

my salvia though, looks like shes a picky one. i cant keep her happy, ive tried everything ive read short of giving her good ferts, only cause i heard theyre easy to burn. i keep her in the shade under a shade netting, cause i read they dont take well to pretty much any direct sunlight. somethin bout stunted/slowed growth. and i keep it misted and pretty humid, not that its not already humid in fla....but she just doesnt seem happy, its definitely not dying, just not growing like i think it could....anyone have direct experience with salvias, cause what im findin online isnt that helpful past general cultivation tips...

my kratom, seems like its doing pretty good, it looks real happy, following the sun through the sky all day leanin from side to side...but there are a few holes in the leaves that dont necessarily look like pests..maybe more like sunspots or somethin, i dont know if thats possible on the plant, but its just a guess...i keep it under the shade clothe too and keep it really humid and misted as i read it likes jungle-like rainforest conditions...anyone have direct knowledge of this one...

any help is really appreciated...thanks guys(and gals)..

Kratom seems to be pretty adaptable, except for temperature, but haven't grown them long enough to add much detail. I keep kratom and salvia pretty much the same way as you do. Shade, no misting as the humidity is usually pretty high here (NW florida). When the temperature hits the low 50's bring the Kratom inside. Salvia should have a rich organic soil, but the roots will fill the pot quickly when it's growing well. I got much better growth by planting in the ground. Bright shade seems to work well w/ Salvia. I don't think you need the shade cloth if it's already in shade. The best growth I've had w/ Salvia is by giving the roots plenty of room. Plants in the ground will die back in the winter, but should grow back in the spring.

im goin to, ive got a couple different kinds of plant-tone. ima figure out which ones good for which and hit em up n see what happens..

my salvia is getting brown spots along the sides of some of the lower leaves, almost like its burnin up, or the leaves are dieing from the outside in....could this be from the direct sunlight/too much heat? or maybe a deficiency?

ok, so i gave the salvia a little more soil and a raise up in the pot, along with a little 5-3-3 plant tone. the soil was real wet, ima let it dry out pretty good and see if that helps. now that i think of it i didnt check, and have been keepin the soil pretty wet...oops..but we'll see...

here is a pic of one of the leaves from each, the salvia leaf is the longer one. it had fallen off the plant. and the kratom leaf was one of the worst lookin ones as far as ate up. anyone know what these are signs of....

thanks alot for any help...

You might have already found the problem w/ the salvia. I normally use Peters 20-20-20 for both the salvia and kratom. I think the kratom looks OK. You might want to mix some more soil and add more perlite to improve the drainage. Once the salvia acclimates, early morning sun and late afternoon sun should be fine. I've been using miracle grow potting mix, mixed 50/50 w/ perlite. It works well for a while, but the soilless mixes aren't great long term. When the salvia stabilizes, the leaves should be flat, w/ a rich emerald green color, enhanced by a bunch of trichomes that give the leaves a look similar to velvet. Probably a good idea to get some cuttings started asap just in case.

For the salvia, try organic ferts, then they won't burn. [admin note: no discussion of consumption of other drugs]

i transplanted the salvia and the kratom into new homes with some MC organic soil and about a half a tablespoon of blood meal and plant tone. the top leaves on the salvia are getting their color back. i think i just drowned it by leaving it out in the rain e'ry day and not bringin it in..i think itll come back though...

Rife is beginning to sprout.

I would start introducing your plants to more light. i've often read that salvia cannot tolerate high amounts of light, but after I grew them with full sun I was left with very large, very potent leaves. The internode spacing was cut down dramatically, and the growth rate was much higher.

Don't let either the Kratom or Salvia dry out. do whatever with the datura, it's a weed
