After much convincing, I managed to get this FOAF to visit this thread at this site. She has seen and handled thousands and thousands of seeds--and has never seen any like that. I did what I could, brother DOS. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I live in an old farmhouse, and mice store seeds in the damnest places. I bet those were stolen from some decorative thing that showed seeds, from birdseed, or even brought in from outside. When I rennovate, the walls are filled with Hickory nuts, an old timer told me they cut the last Hickory tree down here 75 years ago. Those look so unusual, maybe you or the missus has something packed away in a box in the basement that has decorative seeds displayed?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I may be mistaken but those resemble castor beans. In fact if I were in Vegas id wager a bet. They come in pods and riccin is derived from those. It is possible that a rodent digested them and met with demise from the riccin (naturally occurring) Lot of those babys grow out my way as well. Dont know which is worse as far as a poisen. The Castor plant is deadly and the Oleander is nasty stuff as well. Someone prove me wrong on this one. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | A Jatropha is also a euphorbia as well all plants with this catagory will produce pods of oil filled clusters that some south sea islanders make tonics from. They sell larger versions of this same seed in Hawiii to tourists in the form of neclases and bracelets. I cant recall the poloneysian euphorbia tree that those beans come from but you will find them washed up on certain beachs in maui and moliki. I remember beachcombing as a kid and collecting those beans so I could make my own neclise. I used to sand them down with sandpaper and polish them. The beans may very well be Jatropha instead of Ricinus Comminus. Can anyone help me identify these beans? They come with their own propulsion system. ![]()
