Mango Seed
permalink

Hi,

I once ate the flesh of a mango and chucked the seed and skin into my compost/worm farm. After several weeks, I checked the worm farm and was surprised to see that the mango seed has sprouted a root and tried to anchor itself inside my worm farm. It failed to germinate past this stage because I tried to transplant it into the soil during winter.

Anyway here's a picture of another mango seed I am trying to germinate.

I ate the flesh, washed the seed and tried clean some of the fibres/hairs off the seed with a knife.

I put it on a shallow bed of peat and covered with some hemp cloth (hessian material) and stuck it on heat tray.

Within a few days, there was this shit coming off it, check it out, anyone got any ideas if this is normal? It almost seems as if the fibres are trying to attach themselves to something?
