I have 4 Salvia plants and am looking to transplant them. My question is, knowing they need very good organic soil, what kind or mix of ingredients is the best to use. I am really wanting to hear from people that have experience with Salvia, however anyone knowing of high quality organic soil would be appreciated.

Also any other info on the plants is appreciated.

Don't know anything about Salvia, but Fox Farms is a great organic soil. A little expensive, but very good IMO.

Thanks littlebit, I went to a nursery for poinsettias and picked up some good organic dirt they had. Then I went to Homedepot and got some organic MG soil. So far it has worked great. And it cost under 10.00 a fat sack of it. I plan on getting some of the ff just to see how it does.

sometimes you get what you pay for.. watch the MG soil.. FF is a better choice IMHO but is more expensive... a good quality potting soil (Pro MX) would suffice...

Check out this link for growing Salvia... I think it would benifit you

considering his MG organic was 10 bucks a bag and i can get a big bag of FF ocean forest for 25 bucks i really wouldn't call FF expensive.

I got my best growth from planting outside. The soil is typical gulf coast. Lots of sand, low organic content, normally a bit acidic. Indirect sun. This was coupled w/ no maintenance. Tops died back during the winter and regrew the following year. The second year, growth was sparse.

With what cheech said and them growing great outside, the MG soil might not be that bad an idea to try them.

MG soil is geared towards outside growing conditions, so might take what was said and might be ok with it.

And I'm not one for MG except for indoor mother plants for my growing of marijuana in the past, but might be one place it would also work here.

FFOF would be my choice though.

Happy Growing

I haven't used MG organic, but I have used the MG soil less mix. Worked fine for about a month, until the nutes were consumed. Peters 20-20-20 until the plant outgrew the container, then a repotting. I've never had great luck the second year. Normally took cuttings the second year to rejuvenate.
