My semi-legal pepper grow
permalink

I've gone ahead and bought peppers that are meant for my outdoor garden. That said, it's too early to put them out. They'll need to be inside for 3-4 more weeks before they can go outside in the garden. I need to keep them inside until I can put them out.

I have read that 24/0 is a bad lighting cycle for peppers, but I have 3 girls in there who are vegging under 24/0. Is a sudden switch to 18/6 bad for the girls (they're more important than the peppers)?

why not just pop the peppers in there for a few days, see if its true.

on the other hand, maybe 18/6 works better for your mj plants, some prefer that. i use 24 myself, never tried 18, but hey.

I would believe that the pepper doesn't like 24 hours of light, I have some plants in my closet with my other plant, and they were under 18/6 for a while but when I switched to 12/12 they all starting growing new leaves and looking much healthier than before.

I moved the plants out of the tent after a few days. They hated 24/0, and just barely tolerated 18/6. I have flipped my switch to 12/12, but they seem to be doing fine where they are (I move them out in the day and back in at night). Next year I will be sure to have a purely legal grow at this time so that I can take advantage of the light and get my garden plants a head start without messing with lighting schedules and whatnot.

No matter the plant, my girls are more important. I could likely put them back in but why bother at this point. They seem to be doing great.

Good point eleaf ... pepper plants can be replaced quite easy but "your girls" could be another story. Besides, it won't be long B4 various farmer's markets are open for biz and selling their crops. My ...

I found that peppers, and most other garden vegetables, do best at 15-16 hours of light per day, and that cycle simply doesn't match anything that can go on with mj in the tent. If I want to grow veggies or herbs under the lights, and I do, that will have to happen when mj isn't in the equation.

15-16 hours of light sounds like a good amount for vegging a tropical sativa, maybe you could try to have some pure Thai vegging in there next time.

Perhaps. But I'm generally not patient enough to wait for a good sativa to do her thang. The most sativa I've done is Grapefruit from femaleseeds.nl (which was good stuff BTW), and she stretched WAY too much for the space I had (though I have a much bigger superior space now).

I'll likely grow enough mj to keep me going for a while then try my hand at some garden veggies in the later fall and winter when I otherwise couldn't. What's the point of growing them inside right now when they are sitting tall and proud out in the garden?

Just out of curiosity, why would a pepper grow be semi-legal? Did you import some contraband pepper seeds from Afghanistan or something??
