What do the flower sets represent? A single tomatoe for every flower? I have one celebrity plant that has around 30-50 blossoms already and one small tomatoe forming. I cut the first 6-8 flowers off to stimulate more growth and it seems to be working.

These two are really pumping out flowers. I heard unlike pot the nitrogen ferts we use dureing early growth stages can be detrimental to flower and fruit set. I heard some folks in addition to proper pruning use either know ferts or something im not familiar with to give the plant at the time the blossoms appear in good numbers. So at this point to I hold off on ferts entirely or go with a bloom formula?

I was going to get some castings and chicken manure compost today for some pot plants and possibly the tomatoes. This is what I have been feeding so far.

my suggestion would be to just look up that specific variety online. just google the name and there are lots of websites that will tell you if they are det. or indet. Determinate basically just means they grow to a general height and stay there...Indeterminate means they crawl and spread all over the place...

we had a few heirloom indet. cherry types last year crawled up one of the tall square cages, back down to the ground...the shoots that were touching the ground put roots off the little corners, and it climbed back up another tall cage and we stopped it there or else it would have kept going...

i cant call it on the trimming as ive never tried that specific way...i do trim the smaller leaves and alot of the bottom foliage to keep from getting dirt and diseases splashed up by rain and water, but other than that i just trim off weak looking and sun blocking leaves and get lots of 'maters...

yep...each flower will give a single tomato...

the fox farms peace of mind tomato and vegetable fert is 7-4-5....i mixed it in when i planted each one, and have sprinkled some around the base of the plants a few times, and they love it...ive seen no difference with flower set...although i havnt used it since they started flowering about three weeks ago...on the box it recommends to use bloom formula once they start flowering...

happy growing, eating fresh tomaters....

When i first read this big article about this last year. it convinced me, to the point that i went to all my ladies and went scissor happy on them.

I really wish i had only snipped half the plants so i knew if this principle works the same on mj as it does on tomatoes. I guess I wanted to do what i thought was best for all of my girls has anyone tried this?? less vegatitive growth and more sunlight on the buds.

the article claimed this promoted larger, tastier, more bountiful tomatoes.
will i get the same benefits with my mj??

I bury my MJ plants deeper when transplanting also but never cut off the lower branch's like your describing for tomatoes. I can see how this would make a tomatoe bushier and shorter. I have some possible male plants that I do not wish to waste soil on but still not sure of their sex yet. Do you think I would damage a MJ plant if I gave it the same lower branch elimination for a deeper insertion into a container or a hole I dug? Would it respond in a similar way as a tomatoe? Maybe this is a dumb idea.

Good morning,

I do not think removing the lower branch before transplanting would cause any damage to the plant if it did anything it'd prob grow new root at that point but ...

I thought you weren't suppose to transplant MJ deeper than it was in its previous pot, something about it promoting stem rot near the base of the plant??

Have a Great day
