No vegetable shots this go round...but i do got some cool lightning shots from the storm the other night, and a shot of a black racer snake that suprised the hell outta me when i turned the corner on the house today....

i was lookin up at the garden when i turned the corner and about stepped on it. i didnt kill it though, i just shoo'd it into the neighbors yard....mwahahahaha

the lightning the other night was awesome, i so wish i wouldve eaten some shrooms just for the show. i watched it for like two hours waaay in the distance before it got here, then sat on the porch while it passed, then watched what you see in the pics for about an hour after it passed. it would bolt out from one or two main bolts then spider out into five or ten...cool stuff..

well, the others are pretty cool too. enjoi. hope everyones eatin fresh veggies.

Lucky you caught the shots you did!

Im big on trying to capture pics of little natural occurances and ive yet to be able to get a any good shots of lightning stirkes.

Ive tried... but you have to be fast on the button to get them before the good shots are done and gone.

Regardless of the lack of MJ, it is nice shooting SURFBUM..

Set your camera up on a tripod and use long shutter speeds or BULB. Let several strikes happen before you close the shutter.

my g/f has a ghetto kodak. its a DXG model 518. all i did was set it to the fireworks setting and right before each huge blast of lightning the heat lightning would be real bright, when i saw it get super bright i would click the button. it would take a few seconds to focus and actually take the picture, but those are what i came up with.

i was suprised it worked so well, and after the first one came out decent, i stood in the back yard with my arms straight up for like 30 mins takin shots... i bet i looked goofy.

that and i got lucky that night, the lightning seemed to hang out for a few seconds as it spidered out. it was really cool.

most of these tomatoes were started from seed indoors. Except for the two with labels golden boy , and early ball.

the Tomato varities started from seed are Rutgers, ukranian pear, russian, sun sugar. one Natalino Brocolli a hybrid lily, jalapeno and habanero peppers.

Cooler 1

Cooler 2

Cooler 3

Early Ball tomatos

strawberry

also have some sugar snap peas growing out of a bed and running up the fence as well as some variety of bean growing out of the same bed.

I got some nice tomatos going in the garden this year.

Rutgers, red cherries, and beefsteaks

I tried somthing that i read (earlier in this thread i beleive) this year.

Suggestion was to prune the first sets of flowers that appear, and it forces larger numbers out later on.

Ive yet to see if it helps increase the fruit yeilds, but i can say that it has actually produced more flowers on the folowing branches.

Food for thought....

ya treadwell..cool that ur growing rutgers.. they were on sale at the local dollar store for 33. cents a pack.i couldnt pass up the deal.. especially being an heirloom variety. I've become an old lady gardening heirloom tomatos!

seriously , this year i just randomly slaped all my seedlings into large styrofoam coolers together with other plants..usually i put more individual care into my tomato plants but this year i was a little more half assed about it.

I dont really want to prune any of them as theyre planted in container together i want them
to fruit ASAp ..if anything i'll be pruning the new shoots not the flowers.

Pruning the shoots towards mid - late season helps to put the energy towards the fruits
and flowers alrady on the plant.. as opposed to growing more vegetative growth.

I also like to keep as many of the pruned shoots as possible and treat them
as cloned branches. Ive already taken at least one cutting from each tomato
variety to mother them indoors for the winter for next year.
