Every time I build something "new" with treated lumber, I get one of these "pests" boring into a piece of wood. From what I understand, they are not prone to stinging humans, but are a real source of annoyance. Short of killing them [slapping at them, knocking them out of the air, and then stomping them with my size 11 shoe], does anyone else have my problem?? And, if you do, how do you get rid of them? I don't like using airborne sprays [if at all possible], but this "sum bitch" has bored a hole in one of the cross members of my new arbor, and makes a general pest of itself by the back door. ![]() ![]() ![]() Thoughts, anyone?? Nelson

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I have them here too. They bore holes in my fence, which I do not like, otherwise I think they are okay. My experience with them has been they are only annoying (besides the holes) in the spring. Mine have about 10 ft. territories, and they scrap with each other for the best spots, whatever that means to a bee! I guess for the age-old reason, mating. Here in the mid-atlantic they are about done being aggro to each other and have settled down to the bidnezz of pollination and whatever else they do with the purty flowers. I leave them alone, as I do with as many creatures as possible. They've never come close to causing destruction of my fence, so live and let live. Wasps and Yellow Jackets are the only bugs I routinely kill outside my house. I hate those fuckers.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | little bastards are eating my house at an astonishing rate. tried the carpenter bee killer spray/lumber treatment. nada. unless u spray the bee directly, no good. got a jug of the 7month general insect control {household pests ants, roaches, spiders etc} sprayed that in all there holes with my pump sprayer, and in the sofit vents. they seem to be all dead now... occasionally i will hear some wriggling in there. i think they are trying to repopulate. no idea how to prevent these little monsters, im going to start filling there holes with copious amount of Great Stuf Expanding foam.

![]() ![]() | Also just remeber guys they "chew" not "eat" the wood, pyrethrin( ugg again spelling) does kill them affectively BUT if they are boring, not eating, i does not do much good. Thus maybe a concoction of petrolium jelly and pyrethrin make a butter that when they pass by and rubb it on their body, they die. Then larvie left cant eat they die too. Kinda makes sence to me aywho ![]()

Crapenter Bees will bore holes and lay their egg and then you can get Woodpeckers. The woodpeckers hear the larvae and go to peckin to feed. I have a 25' x 40' car port and it is exposed treated lumber. I have been lucky and NO woodpeckers. Old man down the road told me that tidbit of info couple weeks ago. I kinda like the badmitton deal. But , I hate to kill shit. But as was said, wasp are dead mothers. Good luck.... ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | we get longicorn beetle larvae; a piece of thin wire down hole craps them. A modification of this technique is used to catch large grubs. They put a lttle corkscrew on the end of wire, hook the grub and pull out for fishing bait. best wishes with the bees Nelson, glad they are not here lol. nigel

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | the proper way to control them is to dust the hole with something like drione or any general insect dust. then seal the hole..cork, great stuff whatever. i got crapenter bee's and woodpeckers tearing my house apart...little bastards.
