i just found this pic from last summer. look at the neon purple. awesome

it is a bulb and it gets bigger every year, and can be seperated and replanted easily. Blooms in June, and attracts butterflys.

just wanted to share this beautiful plant with anyone who hasnt herd of it.

Those are nice plants to use in your landscaping, Be so Kind . We planted about a dozen or so a few years ago, and are now planting in other areas/gardens. I'm sure I could find it, but, when do you dig and seperate? Fall or spring?

Nelson

PS: Agree, the butterflies and bees love this plant!

cool pics. In the fall I would order all my bulbs for the nursery. Store them over winter in a freezer, break them out in the spring and plant them in containers for sale. When the bulbs come up in the nursery, 1000's of pots, large groups of the same bulbs was wild. I sit there with a doob just watching the breeze move all that color around. Those are my second favorites right behind the Crocosmia. Cool pic made me think of those days, sweet.

Nice info and a good read, Be so Kind ...

All the varieties I've ever seen are corms [bulb-like]. I would have to say they are like drumstick allium and sunny twinkles on reproducing; haven't seen the rhizome variety, but that's not to say it doesn't exist in my neck-o'-the woods. And agree, that fall would be the best time of year to seperate/transplant [with a little bone meal]. Geez, summer hasn't even started and here I am talking about fall projects!!

Happy Gardening !!

Nelson

yeah ive only really been gardening a couple years so corms bulbs, etc are still kinda new to me. but i do know that i have a green thumb and i love plants. which i assume are qualities shared by most of the people on this forum.

i move often, and all my plants are in pots now, i am gonna post pics as everything blooms.

im glad some of you guys are into other plants beside just MJ, gardening to me is very calming and rewarding.
