I dunno maybe the Opium went straight to their heads ![]() Seriously ? It's because of the sheer weight of the pods with nothing to lean against. It's what this particular variety does when the head puts on weight. Just as many tomatos would rather grow on the ground than vertically once they put on weight, if no cages or stakes are supporting them. Typically in a field there are hundreds of poppies in very close proximity and so their leaves are supporting each other upright. Last edited by BCGuerillaGrowa; 07-21-2009 at 05:35 PM..

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | eatthc with most plants that you harvest at peak maturity they are going to look that way. All my tomatos, peas, and peppers drop like that. As do alot of sub-tropical fruits that are cultivated here in the states. Most of those plants come from farther south originally and just grow in huge clusters, and across the ground at end of life cycle. I dont care if BC tells me it takes 1 month or 6 months to grow "O" pods that size. Im following close behind. Them babies look heavy with sap.

Takes about 3 months. Usually people grow a spring and a fall crop...

![]() | I have a lot of other poppy kinds. Some of them seem to be biannuals and onyl bloom the second year. Perhaps those are from seeds dropped and sprouted from the fall before? The ones I plant inthe spring, 5 months is about right. The ones dropped in the fall bloom earlier. you can keep them blooming all summer like this! The wild poppies are some of the first spring flowers and are still blooming in the feilds in the fall. My OP seeds look nothing like the store bough tones. They are a deep indigo color and soemtimes even a brighter blue. I'd like to see yor seed pics when you harvest them. Only the prickly Poppy have I seen such huge pods. Congrats!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Where did I ever say it took 5 months? Where did this guy get that? I didn't say that. I started the seeds indoors Mid April. It's just over 3 months at most. If you look back in the thread eatthc you would see that. Prickly poppy? That definitely isn't a somniferum even if it is a Papaver. However I don't think it is a poppy at all. I have wild orange California poppies here as well they look nothing like that.
