Im starting Catnip seeds as we speak. Its an interesting herb and i love seeing cats go crazy over it. Anyone have any experience with it? Also, i was told that if smoked, catnip gets people high. Is this really true? I think some one was bullshitting me.

![]() | google search of catnip wiki turns up wikipedia's thougts on catnip. apparently it says that catnip appeals to cats because it is a pheromone. it doesn't state that catnip gets them 'high', so i assume if you smoke it it wont get you high. i have no experience growing catnip...sorry

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Man do they love the stuff......they truly will mutilate your plantings in a day...no problem. I have several containers of the stuff which I rotate into the cat's area and 5 that are in rehab getting ready to go back in....otherwise, your cat will rip em out by the roots. Sprinkle the seeds across your medium and press them in using your hand. They need a bit of light to germinate and usually do so in less than 10 days. I cover the container with any kitchen cling wrap and set it under flouros. Make sure to break the seal every day for an hour or so....and when the seedlings show their first leaves, remove it altogether. I keep the medium moist, using a spray bottle to keep the soil moist and the humidity levels up while I wait for them to pop. Once they get about 3 inches tall, pinch them above a node as they will get leggy. I also use containers that are lower to the ground but relatively wide....a 14 inch pan that is 4 inches deep will keep the cat from turning the entire contents over and allows easy access to the treat . Also try oats or ryegrass. Just layer the seeds pretty thick then cover with about and inch of medium and keep it moist and in good bright light. In about 3 weeks or so, your cats will adore the grass just as much as the catnip. Quest ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hehehe, I grew some Hydroponic catnip once, My cat loved it! It grew so fast and huge it blew my mind! I wonder if i still have pictures... ![]() It clones really easy ![]() As far as getting you high when smoked? Not really... Maybe a slight sensation of somethingness, but it could just be placebo. Catnip tea however has nice relaxing effects ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | catnip has been growing in my backyard garden for years. It is perenial and comes up every spring. My cat rips the crap out of the plant, but it still comes back strong every time. I think catnip was designed to be mauled by cats every once in a while, almost like a training technique.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I also grow catnip in the outside garden specifically in the corners since it is also an excellent mosquito repellant. My cat also is one for liking the nip and the grass. Here's one of her though with her favorite. She's loved MJ since I started growing it. Don't worry, she's a medical user too. LOL Alley
