Damn Rabbitts
permalink

I had started some Cuccumbers inside and they had just gotten their 2nd set of true leaves so I put them on the porch before I transplanted them OUTDOORS, and the Damn Rabbit that lives under my deck eat every one!.
Plus I just had to have another theard started here.

There are rabbit repellents that are a mixture of Naphthalene, dried blood and tobacco dust. Sprinkle the stuff around your plants and it is supposed to discourage the little bunnies.

Thanks Buzz,
I have a fence around the garden itself but I just didn't think about them critters hopping up on the deck. I have used a spray around the fence that has tobacco juice in it.
Grow well,
EZ

Sorry to interrupt, but i have a question for buzz. So can i just buy a bag of rolling tobbacco and spread it around my grow area? Will that be effective? Bunnies ate 4 out 8 young plants i had outdoors.

I don't believe so. There are two other ingredients besides tobacco and the tobacco is ground to a fine powder.

I've used a tobacco tea in the past. I bought pipe tobacco and added warm water, stewed and steeped. It's poison, be careful. Gosh I can't remember if I reduced it and sprayed it on my plants?? Better do a look see on the net.

If ya ever raised a veg garden, you might have found out that rabbits love almost any kind of sprout. I remember losing whole plantings of corn and cucumbers, cabbage; that the rabbits loved to nibble off when they're young and tender. The best thing is just don't put them into the ground until they have a tough woody stem, maybe at leasd 1/8" thick or more.

I used to hear that snuff, dried out, and sprinkled around a plant would keep a rabbit away. It makes sense, they always sniff before they eat, so they suck up a little snuff, it burns the crap out of their sinuses, whacks 'em up for a few minutes (remember your first cigarette?) and they don't come around anymore. NEVER REALLY TRIED IT though. I'd be interested to hear if it worked, but I'm not much on outdoor gardening anymore.
I wouldn't spray tobacco juice on a plant I wanted to smoke, nicotine is a toxin.

I"m thinking you stand on your porch with a shotgun all night and when he comes out you shout "Silly Rabbit, Trichs are for Dad!" and blow him away!!

Just a thought

Ok, I am a gardener by hobby and need. As a hobby, my yard is pretty impressive....thanks to some wonderful hydroponic fertigation techniques. The veggie garden is ridiculous. I now have only one watermelon, cucumber and indeterminate tomato compared to several last year. I had melons and cucumbers stuck every damn where.... Anyway.....I found that cayenne pepper works. Also, cat litter or the presence of a cat will eliminate yer pesky waskally wabbit. You yourself can also urinate around the perimeter....don't whiz on yer plants and if you do...don't offer any to me! A planting of chives also keeps rabbits away as will onion sets and garlic.

Rabbits are easy really....be damn thankful you don't have squirrels...they are or should be used as little secret agents. They could easily infiltrate, I do believe , anything on the earth. For those I resort to "lead" poisoning.... I have yet to find one that wore a vest.....

Good luck and check yer pantry.......garlic salt works well too but do not put it around the base lest the salts will leech into the soil and affect your plant's health.

Don't get me started on squirrels, who decided these rodents are cute. They are stripping the bark off of Redwood trees, 30 feet in the air. Killing them above the strip. If I could see the dang things I would do 'em in I think.
Bunnies are cute but very destructive too.

Hello
To all you fine Folks out Thare in this CyberGarden
I sure want to Thank ALL Of YOU for some Great information!
mSeTxOiNcEaRn, Hope you protected your other 4 babies, Sorry to here of your loss. BUZZ always has some good advice!
OUTDOORS, Nice of you to visit,, I've always been an outdoors/dirt kind of guy. your thoughts are always insightful, and looked to in times of need
I tend to agree with Pappa Seed, I have sprayed around to base of other plants, but not on the leaves.

Poppa's got it right "I"m thinking you stand on your porch with a shotgun all night and when he comes out you shout "Silly Rabbit, Trichs are for Dad!" and blow him away!!"

Hello Quest4high, thanks for stopping by, "Rabbits are easy really....be damn thankful you don't have squirrels...they are or should be used as little secret agents. I think you and Pappa Seed are on to something I had Squirrels last year but they loved the peanut butter in my trap I bought at the feed store.
They are like Earth Girls, EZ to trap
So far I have not had any of em
I have grown HOT CHILE and used that around the base, I just crush em and then sprinkle around , then lightly water in to keep it in place a few days. This is what I'll do this year also.
I tried to get a picture but my camera won't take the pixel size and the software that I have will only let me crop and not resize my pictures, alas.
And OD, it is so nice to see your buzy little polinator buzzing in this thread! It's one of my favorite Avators
Grow Well,
