tomatoes that is! Whats goin down GC.com? me? oh, nothing much, just got done planting some paper towel methodly germed tomater seeds

they were started about 4 days ago, (hmmm right b4 the loss-of-posts thing lol) and boy did those roots get big! most tap roots were an inch long, or longer, with the exception of 2 that were about 3/4 in. sorry to all my european friends, well to pretty much everyone NOT in the USA, as i do not know the metric system as well as i do the "kiddie" way. lol

i started 15 organically grown and havested seeds from Burpee ( <---- makes me wary as to the organic part, no OMRI rating ) and 12 germed. the others didnt, so i tossed them. if they havent popped my now, "quite frankly, my dear, i dont give a damn" about the genes they had.

for now ill be using nothing but rain water, (and prolly will continue to do so throughout. infact just omit the words "for now" and everything in between and including these parenthesis, damnit wheres my bong, brb) a locally made organic soiless potting mix called Rabbit Mix, Botanicare Sweet (at half strength to start out, i dont wanna go gung ho yet), SuperThrive @ root development level (1/4 teaspoon is what the bottle says so thats what i used, but i know that 1 ml is about that same amout. but not quite, so i did what the bottle said) (why did i just say that?), GH Down, and Pro-Tekt for pH Up.

later when they need it, i may use Botanicare Pure Blend Pro Soil, or maybe ill try the original Pure Blend Bloom formula, and see if i can get away with an organic npk of 1-2-2 i also wanna get the Earth Juice line, the grow, bloom, i have the catalyst, but there are 1 or 2 more they have as well.

heres a pic of my Hanna grow-check combo (which i bought for my too hot/not enough bubbles/failed DWC tomatoes) reading of the stored rain water we have before i added 5 ml Sweet, 1/4 ts SuperThrive, and 1 ml Pro-Tekt.

here's after all that above-ness happened

heres a shot of my additives

that Pyro Grow stuff, its a very fine dust. its got lots of trace elements, but im not too familiar with these. im assuming that the powder is crushed rocks of various types, and that they take time to break down. so i should probably go ahead and mix the rest of the bag of soil im using now, eh? so that by the time that i need the soil for transplanting, the additive should be very well on its way to breaking down. how close am i?

heres one of the pots i will be using. the small tray with 6 parts is what im planting them in, (duh) and xplanting up from there. eventually im gonna get a 2 gal container, and if they live long enough 3 then 5. i wanna try a plant grown in a garbage can. ive seen a gargantuan MJ plant grown in one, and wow! Save ME some!

the soil im using is shown here:

its a soiless mix consisting of...stuuuuuff...

dont you hate when people do that??
it has:
Compost, penut hulls, aged pine bark, lava sand, coir, diatomite, worm castings, aged pecan shell, rabit manure, expanded shale, fish meal, kelp meal, alfalfa meal, crab shell, dried molasses, granit sane, humate, and "sea minerals" of which none are listed lol. its still pretty loamey (or is it loamy?)

this is where it all started,

the germin' tub. but whats that inside the tub?

Marglobes! ahhhhhhh heirlooms. sadly they are a commercial variety, not as good as, say, my great grammies woulda been. but then, who cares?? its gonna grow, and im gonna help it.

24 o' dems and i got some Mortgage Lifters (another commercial heirloom, but still, ORALE HOMES! EES GONNA GROW!) one thing i have been wondering is what the photoperiod requirement for tomatoes, and in the middle of this sentence, i went to look for the answer on google. lmfao. aparently the tomato is a day neutral plant, meaning that it can flower under any daylight hours, but research has shown that continuous light (24/7 lights on) will retard fruiting. wow thank you GC.com, you dont stop giving do you??

i started this mainly to get into keeping a feeding and watering schedule, but then i got this webcam, and just decided to go Apesh!t. anyway, i need to go catch some z's. oh, i watered them after i planted them, (...) and they are gonna grow outside, in an area that catches sun till about 3pm, then is shaded. hmm maybe 2pm for the first week or 2.

any criticism is welcome, and questions, equally so. im talkin to my hydro guy about a used bc bloombox type machine that he has. i cant pay for it all at once, and im trying to get him to hold it for while i save up, and then pay for it and go
ive seen the inside and its exactly like the bc northernlights box with the veg cab and flower cab that holds 6 plants in its prefitted (but removable) hydro system. the man said that teh problem with those cabs is heat a lot of the time. but ill just buy a dayton, or something quite online. hee hee... oops i need to go to sleep. gnight all!

nothing else to report, no water has been added, but i noted that my water buckets pH fell to 4.6! weird, its just superthrive, sweet, and pH Up. hmm anyway, i think im gonna move it outside in the shade tomorrow when i wake up. temps here are mid 90s in the shade tho! i think ill hold off on full exposure till the helmet falls off, or untill i get a couple more.

End Log

I not a professional grower...and I think I have mentioned this before. But letting your indoor plants go outside...for even a few hours can induce unwanted bugs.

If the "helmet" is ready to go...its ready. No need for tweezers or other gadgets. If it's above soil and ready to go...a few hours will kick that "helmet" off.

What type of tomatoes are these again? If you mentioned earlier..sorry.

Lil_gotti - these are organic beefsteaks from burpee.

they are not comming back inside, so bugs arent a problem, and they shouldnt be a problem but if they are, ill go get some ladybugs at the garden shop

i hate waiting, but meh... <shuffles the deck of cards again>

no new sprouts, kind of dissapointing, as i expected much faster popping rates, as the roots were so well developed when they were planted. i was afraid it might be a detriment, and that fear has been confirmed ithink.

remoistened soil in teh tray that has no sprouts, and placed the one with the helmet head and the sprout outside.

started germin more seeds, beefsteaks, red brandywines, sugar lumps, rutgers, and i cant remember the other. these i will place directly into soil, when i see a tap root a couple milliliters long.
