Yesterday a friend of mine gave me a scoby ( Symbiotic Culture OF Bacteria and Yeast) with some starter tea. You can buy kombucha tea in many health food stores, but its nowhere near as potent as making your own. Not to mention much cheaper. I've been interested in this stuff for a while now, but never actually gotten a starter kit until now... He described the process to me but I was pretty stoned at the time so I think Im gonna have to resort to google ![]() Anybody else grown this cultured tea? Quote:

If I'm not mistaken that is from the Micronesian Islands. The island of Yap, Chuck or maby Palau. I had a girlfriend that visited one of those and brought some back. She raved about it, said it got her really bzzd and got me excited to drink some. The buzz was a dissapointment but we had some great sex that night, she was all fired up.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | hey all ![]() Sorry it took me so long to get back here. Had a lot of other stuff to do. Anyway the Kombucha is brewing now. I finished up the process just earlier today. It was really easy I wish I hadn't waited so long it'd almost be done by now ![]() Komet: barley juice eh? Sounds gag-worthy ![]() Anyway. here goes nothin ![]() I followed the directions here I sterilized all surfaces and tools/pots with bleach prior to use. All the water was filtered & boiled 10 minutes prior to use. (and allowed to cool) ingredients:: 7 tea bags (or 7 teaspoons loose tea) 320 grams white sugar kombucha culture, & starter tea 1 gallon water I simply brewed the tea, added the sugar, let everything cool, and added it to the brewing jar. Covered with a coffee filter. and thats it! I'm now going to put it in a 76 degree place +/- 4 degrees. (Btwn 20-30 Celsius) Probably next to my clones ![]() -afterburner Last edited by afterburner; 12-01-2006 at 08:50 PM..

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Just sipping a little right now. I couldn't wait to try it. Its been about 5 days. it was smelling so strong! Kinda like vinegar smell. But It tastes exellent! Like fermented apple juice with a zesty lemony twang. Still tastes a tad bit sweet though so I'm going to let it brew a couple more days. To let it get stronger ![]() I like this stuff! I like it I like it! it makes you feel good. Not a buzz per say. Just good. ![]() I'll letcha know how it tastes in a few days. ![]() -afterburner

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | A couple people have died from it, you probably know a lot about it but heres wikipedia's info (usually reliable): Kombucha Just be careful about contamination, its like growing mushrooms, you're creating an environment that is ideal for bateria or fungus and so its possible that your bateria or fungus wont be the dominant in the environment and something potentially fatal can take over.
