I've seen others do it. Just pm one of the ones in charge and tell them you are no longer a newbie.

The policy is not to allow name changes as it confuses the membership and mods, you'll have to start again from 0 posts Even if you're screen name also means some form of colonic irrigation ... I Need a spliff now

I can give a few examples of members changing their name without losing the number of posts.

I have only sanctioned a few names changes in the past, the last one I did not know it was done and it should not have been Prior to the very last one, I had already stated that I would not be changing anymore handles, this has been a rule of mine for sometime now and nothing new. It really does create tons of confusion for the staff as well as the member base down the road. I have watched it happen each and every time.

Now if you want a custom "title" you need 1000 posts then you submit the change requests to me and I determine if the change is allowable.

A handle change and a title change are 2 diff things. Just to clarify....

oh i do understand about wanting to change a handle though!

do you have an idea how many times I wanted to change mine!!! 4000+ posts and I NEVER intended to keep this name!

It's Ironic Marijuana is prohibited because those in power say it must be so....

but since I agree with LB, in that it realy does confuse everbody, I wont the only way I could see it happening without a whole lot of confusion, is to have a script that runs through the whole database replacing the old handle with the new one, even then, posts where people who had refered somone to the previous handle, when looked at in the future would be very confusing for any member who joined after the name change. Sounds like a lot of work to me when there are clearly more important issues for Rick's time I thought about jumping on the "what about him" bandwagon, but the line has to be drawn somewhere, and LB has a valid argument, no matter which way I look at it, allowing name changes, without a major database reshuffle, would confuse people.

If it's a security issue, simply rejoin, because a number under your name is insignificant. PM anyone who you think needs to know, you'll soon have enough posts for an avatar
