Rick, I know this is not priority or even your problem. But I heard the mention of thumbnails instead of huge files (the problem of not being able to use photoshop properly). And I was curious if the thumbnails instead of links idea could be implemented, the time schedule to do it, and if anyone else wanted to contribute help. I have not worked with bulletinboards before but here are a few suggestions... 1) the little logo next to the image link could be swapped out with a thumbnail that we could create, using restrictions given by you in terms of file size. Would it be hard to edit the code in the bulleting to change that logo thing with a modifiable file? 2)This one is the same as 1) but would be implemented differently . Give us two upload dialogs to which we could uploads a small and large file. Then it Posted the small next to the big images link. Or the small image is the link for th big... either/or 3) I know one of you members knows a thing or two about programming bulletin boards... With a little help, I am sure we could hand rick a script of sorts that will use the hempcultivations servers (or others) to scale down images to kill two birds with one stone. First It could scale down files that were created by a photshop illiterate person to within the file size parameters (making posting easier for some) and would definitely be needed to scale them down to create thumbnails... The only problem is CPU usage of the servers... I think 1 and 2 are feasible... But then again I am not doing the work.. The reason I bring this up at all, is that it makes browsing around a lot more difficult. I had a tendency to not look at threads that don't have pictures, and now I simply don't come around much. Well I don't come around much because of my busy personal life, but clicking through images to find the one that you actually wanted to look at is kinda annoying... Sorry for all the whining. I just wanted to see if things are going to change around here or not. It doesn't matter either way.. but I am hoping for something new to be implemented. I would like to say thanks to Rick for giving us such a great environment to share our knowledge... and a couple pesky images is not going to hinder my ability to help others with their problems... Thanks again Rick, sorry for wasting your time... just throwing a few ideas around

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thumbnails are being implemented in vb3.0. As soon as it is out, we will have it ![]() Rick hates hacks; and I agree with him. It makes things much harder when upgrades do come out to install them. Some of the most informative threads have no pictures in them at all. Sounds like you are more intersted in just looking at phat bud pictures ![]()

![]() | I'm not so sure thumbnails are being implemented in vB 3.0. Here is the only thread I could find relating.. it has multiple attachments, but no thumbnails. The main change in attachments will be that they can be stored in the file system instead of the database. http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...ail+attachment To create thumbnails would require that the server has Imagemagick (GPL) or another processing utility. It's pretty easy to do but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Jelsoft to create a forum meant for the heavy image uploads like this. ps. hacks aren't so bad if you upgrade with a compare/merge program like Araxis. Took about 30 minutes to go from 2.2.6 to 2.2.9.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Crapon, thanks for the comments - some good thought in there. ~S, I agree - it does not look like vb3 is gonna support thumbnails. Go figure. At least they ARE gonna have support for storing images on the filesystem, certainly better than in the db as things currently are. I have been working on a vb thumbnailing system and have learned quite a bit about the inner workings of the vb system. I think we could implement thumbnails on our current version and have a relatively safe upgrade path to vb3. I have a ways to go before i'm really satisfied with the hack but ... we can do it. rick

![]() | If you haven't started upgrading with a compare/replace program like Araxis Merge, I'd really recommend it. It won't work to go to vb3 of course, but it's cake for doing the 2.x.x.x upgrades in about 10 minutes each.
