Posting Guidelines & Commercial Stuff
permalink

I just wondered if there could be some clarification in the posting guidelines for commercial links and things of that nature. From my read it sounds like a post of a commercial link is OK if it's directly related to cultivation and is useful to the person it's posted for. Then again, on the boards I've seen a poorly enforced but outright ban on commercial links (and got inadvertently tweaked on the nose once myself for an otherwise benign commercial post in response to a direct question from another member).

I can understand that mentioning commercial links can put both the business and the post recipient at risk for busts, and I appreciate that. I also wouldn't want to open the door to letting a great resource like this get overrun with spam. I just think the Posting Guidelines should either clarify the terms under which commercial posts/links are OK (say, as in the context of a legitimate discussion or answer to a direct question from a post), or completely relegate discussion of commercial sources of gear and such to PM conversations.

I only bring this up because discussion of LEGAL commercial sources of gear, nutes, etc. has a value and is very relevant to cultivation. I think most people want to do the right thing here but are concerned about mis-steps.

Thanks in advance for clarification!

no, it has nothing to do with getting busted. its all about spam. some hard links when clicked, give the referring website money, or whatever. its mostly ok to post a hard link to a non-profit or non-commercial site. Its just when someone posts a link to a commercial site we frown upon because it is equivalent to spam. (how do we know that user doesnt work for suchandsuch.com site?) To my knowledge, its ok to post links, even if its not cultivation related, (like for example a link to something politcal or similar) but when in doubt, dont make it a hard link (clickable).

hope that made sense...and i hope that is correct...admins?
