I think some times I wanna pm a member to help them with something. For what ever reason I need to attach a photo to illistrate something. I cant. Would it be possible to make PM's be able to show pictures or at least use attachments? I know In the past the has been a problem. It would take away the need for a senceless thread just to show a pic. If im not clear enough let me know its 4 am now time for bed.

Hi GPB.. The image tags were removed from PM's for security reasons... I would go into it more but Im not that technical, but that is the reason the tags were removed.

if you upload your pic to image gallery, or paste the URL of a pic in your GJ or off the website, your msg will show it as a link. I don't think there is a way to put inline images into PMs.

yes there is, and Lady is right they have disabled it. I dont have a gallery. But I find is stupid to have to go through all that work just to show someone a pic of alternating nodes or males flowers or anything else. you know. My point is you only need to send this pic once then its gone. After youi send it theres no reason to have it. The pics needed are so random you might no use that some pic untill months or a year later. I mean if you could at least incert an immage from the place wheres its at you wouldnt need to load another pic wasting bandwidth.

Perhaps it would be nice to be able to do this. However, the img tags were taken away from the pm function because of a real security risk associated with them.

I understand. totally. Why does it need your ip to view a picture though??

The server serving the image needs to know what address to serve the image to. If the server is setup to log its actions it would log the requesting URI (requesting source).

Thats really all there is to it. If I have control of "www.some-evil-server.com" logs, I got your IP and more.

The problem with PM's is that the attack is VERY specific. In a general post, thousands of people view the image, making it impossible to tell who is who.

I'd be happy to expand if anyone has any questions.

Be careful out there, you often never REALLY know who your friends are until it's too late.
