I think it would be great if the attached trichome and pistil coloration diagrams were added to the grow bible...

My ...not that it matters

Perhaps the trichome graphic, but the pistil graphic can be misleading. I can tell you right now that I have pistils that are in the "too late" catagory by the charts definition, but have no amber trichs yet.

Just to clarify....not all or even the majority of pistils are that advanced, but a fair amount are. There are also some environmental factors which have no relationship to maturity that can effect pistils in this manner.

IMO, using pistil coloration is a ballpark assessment at best .

And you have (given something back), anytime you've generated helpful debate that brings about good information. Keep it up, it helps everyone.

I have to agree about the trichome pics, they are really helpful. All the words in the world wont describe what we talk about when we throw trichome colors out like that pic does! And the first time you look through your scope and see little transparent mushrooms all over your bud you feel like dancing! At least, I did. As far as the pistils, I agree. On one of my first harvests (before taking that trip to Radio Shack to get my scope) I harvested by pistil coloration and didnt get squat as far as a high... If only I knew then what I know now.

I think we need to explain to newcomers what an HID lighting system entails...i.e., what exactly is a ballast?

I think it should also be stressed just HOW much HEAT these systems put out...and how heavy the "hardware" of HID lighting is...for example, a while back, I ordered my first light- and it was great, except that the ballast and the lamp were enclosed in one unit, and I had a hard time supporting its weight (the site didn't say how much the thing weighed).

I'm still working on the advertising thing, by the way.

what size/wattage light did you get? normally, the 250w lights come with the one piece ballast/hood deal, but i dont think the larger ones 400w+ lights do.
