Incorrect calculation.

Under lighting in the grow guide (HERE) it says...

"How Many Watts Do I Need?
The general rule of thumb for providing light for an area is a minimum of 30 W per square foot. 50 W per square foot is optimal. You can determine the proper lighting for your area by using this formula:

Watts x Square Feet"

When it should read "Watts divided by Square feet".

Theres gonna be some seriously happy newbies with the current calculation

The question is "How many watts do I need?" OK - so you want the optimal 50 watts per square feet & I have 12 square feet. You multiply 50 x 12 to know you NEED a 600W light.

Take a few more tokes, hun.

So what about......... For example, say you have an area of 10 square feet and a 30 W. That would mean you have a 300 W per square feet minimum.

More tokes needed?

Yes more...

The question is how many watts do I NEED? NOT how many watts do I HAVE?

So, if you HAVE a 1000W light & 15 square feet, then you divide the wattage lamp you HAVE by the number of square feet you HAVE. 1000 W divided by 15 sq feet = 66.67 W per square foot. That's what you HAVE.

But if you NEED 50 W per square foot & HAVE 15 squre feet, then you would multiply 50 x 15. You would NEED 750 W light.

It's a case of HAVE vs NEED.

In your example you HAVE 30 W & HAVE 10 sq ft. 30/10 = 3 W per sq ft

Saaay,
We can clarify the formula a bit. Although, no one has mentioned a prob in the past....hmmm...like Desired watts/sq/ft (30 to 50) X available sq feet = watts needed....er some such shiz. We'll look at it.

maybe to clarify all you need to do is change this formula to 50 x Sq. Ft. instead of watts x sq. ft.
