Hey Guys, I'm going to attempt my first outdoor grow this year. We have a spot, a good spot that no one will ever have access to or be able to got to. The only problem is that even though it is on the banks of a forest there are still some tree's that are very high that look like it could block some light. Other than that it looks like the plants will have light most of the day, that shouldn't be an issue should it? Just using bag seed this time, I do plan on take care of them tho so hopefully it will turn out alright. I am in the NE USA near the PA/WV border, locally I have always heard that starting plants the first week of june is usually pretty good time to start. It's june 15th now, how bad do you think that will effect my plants if I plan on getting them in the ground asap. Lastly I plan on using buckets, just in case they have to be moved. I know that five gallon buckets are good, how many one inch holes should I drill in the bottom of each bucket? Also what is a good soil mixture to have for a first time outdoor grow? Mostly looking for things you can get at lowes or walmart. I don't have to get overly complicated on my first grow. Also I have heard that it helps to line the bottom of each bucket with about 1-2 inches of rocks? Also I am going to be planting three plants and hoping that I get some females. Although it is possible to get all males correct? Thanks to anyone that takes the time to read this and respond to my questions. | ||

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Im in the same general area as you, se ohio, nw WV, And i put mine out in April. They have done great and the weather has been good for the most part with the exception of a couple cold nights which didnt harm them at all. They will be fine putting them out now, they just wont get as much veg. time, hence smaller plants and smaller yield. I would put 6-8 holes in the bottom, but that's just me, i dont know what the optimum amount of holes would be. And in reference to the shade of the trees, as long as they get a decent amount of light and arent fully shaded the entire day then they will be okay, but if the dont get enough light they'll grow slowly and more spindly. ![]()

The rocks you're talking about are meant for drainage, which you will have no problems with if you add that perlite Quote:
Good Luck!
