I have to jump in too since this is my first attempt at outdoor growing in containers. These are hardening off to be outside all the time. They've been vegged indoors for about 8 weeks, but had some issues along the way. (see my journal for details)

The first 3 are serious seeds Bubblegum. You can see some leaf burn from my in-to-out transition. I think they will be ok.

The second 2 are dutch passion's Mazar. Seems far healthier and tolerant. You can also see alittle burn spot on a few leaves.

I think the burns are from transpiring because there is a big temp diff between where they grew up and outside. Mid 80's for a high inside, 110 for a high outside!

Think they will make it?

We'll see how they do. Anyway, just had to contribute to this thread.

Went out and watered and fertilized my GG plants tonight, it was a hot muggy night, so I wore shorts and short sleeves. I am in a raspberry hedgerow, the mosquitos were so bad, I didn't even notice the scratches til I got home. Weird, several were laid right down, almost like an animal had lain on them or something, you can see how the one tip was trying to grow up again. OD, dear, how's this, I never thought.

if you can do it without a problem, then more sun is always a good idea. how long has the plant been growing on 5 hours of sun? is there no light at all? even in the shade a plant is getting enough lumens to grow, it's just not ideal. you could also just tie the braches back, save the tree having injury, thats what I'd do. get some rope and tie branches back. only cut what's really needed. goodluck

The plants I posted only get about 5 hours direct a day and they are doing fine. I would prune trees back if it meant more sun. as long as it did'nt interfere with privacy. it wont harm mature trees as long as you don't go too crazy and also use some charp shears or a saw.

i do have the plants tied off to make all the colas get light. i look at the outdoors plants here, going on right now, and it seems the more sun the better looking plant. i will have to use a ladder and chain saw.....no problem really, just work for my lazy butt. hope to be indoors soon.,outdoor growing takes more time and effort then i thought.

but there's something very special that happens to the herb when it's kissed by natural sunshine. i've sampled outdoor vs indoor gdp. i cloned both from the very same mother.
the outdoor smoke had a definate advantage over the indoor version when it came to potency.
the indoor may have had a more "polished" look to it, and it's aroma and flavor were better defined, but the outdoor stuff was far more potent than it's sister. the yield was also at least tenfold.

yup, there's just something magical about natural sunshine, and there's something especially debilitating about outdoor smoke.

peace-

I guess I'm not technically doing an outdoor grow. I view it more as an indoor grow but I'm using the sun as my light!
