I know this may be a silly question, but has anyone here ever tried hydro outside? Is it feasible?

I know serious security issues would be raised, but maybe someone has/had the right conditions to do so. That plant would be some kind of freakish monster.

I think you would have to have perfect temperatures. If you had any kind of res outside you would have overheat issues. It would be stupid to use any kind of chiller in the system. The root growth would probably be insane and would be choking everything off in no time. In a DWC anyway.
You could probably manage it with E&F but the same goes for the res. Possibly you could protect the res from heat and still have an outside situation. I think its done in greenhouses to some degree. At least I've seen it in sunrooms but the temp is controlled. Dirt is just the best way to go outside but if you have a concrete jungle out back (half of mine is) I'm sure you could fanagle a solution somehow. Probably more hassle than its worth.

Keep the res in an old fridge. Old fridges are a dime a dozen.

Well, just watch because I'm going to try it. For temp control on my res I have 1/2 burried it. We'll see how it turns out. The biggest challenge for me will be my night time temps. It gets in the low 40's here at night, so I hope that doesn't stunt them.
If it does then I'll wait till june and put some more out and go for a september harvest.

It's worth a try. That would be a good journal on it's own.

I know serious security issues would be raised, but maybe someone has/had the right conditions to do so. That plant would be some kind of freakish monster.

I have encountered a straight up outdoor hyrdo grow before. I'm not talking about irrigation strips running to the plants. This set up was two enormous plants that were creek fed through PVC piping.

An extremely secluded spot located behind a tall stand of pines near a creek bend that received full sun almost all day. The plants were in a level area of the swamp in 5 gallon buckets with the bottoms sawed off and spraypainted black.

The grower added a mound of additional soil before he transplated the buckets into them to keep the plants elevated and repel flooding. The piping was buried near the creek under some thicket and protruded out of the ground several feet where it ran directly through the bucket.

The plants were harvested so I didnt get to actually see them but the stalks were almost as around as telephone poles. The grower had this thing perfected and I'm thinking he used a few of his hyro indoor clones. You wont need too many plants if you do this thing right and will still get a massive harvest.

It depends how much time you give them to grow. A 5-6' plant should stay happy in a 1' deep x 4' x4' hole.
