Right now i have them in 10 gal blue rubbermaids. Is it fine to just cut off the very bottom couple inches of my original container and then set it into something bigger?? or should i try to expose as much of the dirt as possible, by cutting more of the container off, or pulling the whole thing out?? i would like to avoid the last options because there is a very good chance of its weight making the dirt ball just fall apart during the process. This will be their third and final transplant.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | great thanks i've been root watching lately, and its amazing just how fast an MJ plant and its roots will grow under the right conditions. Not that I'm a newbie or anything, I just never realized just how important to overall growth and yield it is to have a huge nice developed root system, with no rootbind. So I'm taking all precautions this year.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | In truth it takes a long long long time for a plant to become rootbound in a 10 gallon container. If your plants truly were rootbound in their present container there would be no question about a dirt ball falling apart. If the plants are not ready to be transplanted without the soil falling apart from the roots, I would suggest waiting for them to get to that point. I have grown many 60" tall plants in 3 gallon pots. It takes 6 months at least for a plant to become rootbound in my garden. You may not need to perform the third transplant. I'm just sayin'. ![]() ![]()

im sure i could get a great big plant out of a 10 gal. but the question is could it have gotten bigger and had more buds?? my babies have been outside since march 15 and are already 36". so i am willing to bet that by the time they are ready to flower they will need transplanting. when ive used 5 gallon before, ive noticed significant growth slowdown within a week or two of the roots being at the bottom of the bucket. i really doubt that some monsters ive seen on here could have been acomplished in 10 gal. and btw, i really would like to have them in the ground, but my future at this residence is uncertain, and never would I ditch my babies!!!!
