White fuzzy stuff on stems?
permalink

I went outside to check my plant today and I noticed white fuzzy hairs on one of the branches. It looks like cotton candy stuck to one of the branches. I used some oil soap to wipe the fuzzy stuff off but what is it? Is it harmful? Will it most likely come back?

It looks a lot like that buzzmobile. That picture you have is a lot more defined then what I can actually see on my plant. I need a scope so that I can really inspect it. It looks like you pulled the end of a Q-tip off and spread the cotton along the stem of the plant. I actually noticed this two days ago but I put some plant soap on it with a Q-tip and it hasn't come back on that same spot. Now it just moved to another spot on the plant. I just went outside and put more oil soap on it so maybe it won't keep coming back. I researched the Mealybug idea and that could also be a possibility. Although I didn't actually see any bugs at all.....just the fuzzy white stuff.

they live underneath.

I live OS so not familiar with your bugs, never seen anything like that Buzz,

the ones we have on roses here are like pink limpets. Just knocking big ones off sorts them, bad infestations we smother with white oil, stops air getting in shells.

never had it on mj, so interested to see how soap works, best wishes nigel

The picture shows wooly aphids, nigel. They exude the cottony stuff for protection. Soap spray should take care of them. If not then try an oil spray.

That sounds like the normal peachy fuzz that usually grows on my MJ plants.
