Growing In Shade
permalink

Ok,

I am a first time grower in the shade. This forum taught me how to grow indoors. Now I attempting to grow in pots out doors on my porch which is mostly shaded by bamboo. So...what strain breed or type should I order or use to attempt to grow something in the shade out doors? Any help would be appreciated fellow growers!

Don't quote me on this but I think plants need direct light to grow. If it isn't getting any energy from a light source I don't think it will be producing alot.

do they get any direct light at all???

plant growth is directly affected by amount of light received.

shade all day = stretchy plant, very limited bud spots, very limited harvest.

full sun all day = best growth possible, can reach full potential of plant.

IMO, outdoors to be happy with your harvest at all, you should get a minimum of about 2 hours direct light per day. and even with that you will see a lot of stretching. i like at least 6 hours direct sun.

i would install some supplemental lighting on your porch. probly your best (or only) option if your porch is under shade all day.

Yeah I know all this. It's just that if I'm not mistaken there was one particular strand that actually grew in largly shaded areas. Like one strand that was the best to go with if you were dealing with the least amount of shade as possible. I will be deal with with the after noon sun for maybe 3 hours a day. I can move them around to get more...but I work and don't know how consistent I could be on that. I don't know. I'm working with 3 definite hours of sunshine. There is still no suggestions on an outdoor strain?

i do remember on a mandala website, that they had some lowish light strains, suited to fluoro grows for example.

i dont remember the addy though, nor any more about.

but what kinda shade? bright shade? darkish or dark shade? if it aint the first, dont expect much, no matter the strain, but if you feel you can afford the seeds and time, sure why not.
at worst you just know exactly how that spot is for growing mj.

It's rather bright shade! Extremely bright shade! With maybe 3 hours of direct sunlight in the afternoons! I just purchased some White Widow and another popular outside strain for first time growers. Smaller plant with big buds! I have blueberry on the way, but that is going to some grower friends of mine in Napa Valley, California. They have a three story house set up and actually have a license to grow! Thanx for the feedback!

Your yields will suffer greatly with that amount of dirrect sunlight. I had a plot I tried last year that got a little over 5 hours of direct sunlight each day and I wasn't happy with the yield.

I'd try to find a better spot with more sunlight if I were you. You will be glad come october.

I went overboard with sunlgiht this year.

I actually had to hand water in addition to the rain out her because there are two taht are growing in full sun.

By full i mean from the time it comes up in the morning to the time it sets. THere isnt a thing within 300yds to shade them at all from about 5:30- 7:30

First year ive been able to find a spot that offered quite that much sunlight. Im curious to see how it affets them in the long haul.
