Hi Dave B.,
just came across your post while looking for answers to the same problem. I have the same kind of damage happening to one of my plants, just can't seem to find any bugs or eggs. I don't have any slugs or snails to blame it on as I'm out on the prairies and we're drier than dust out here. Hopefully someone else has some more ideas.??
Have a nice day!

Hi back Dave.B.

Been having troubles trying to answer you, My computer has refused to send when I tried to use the quotes. Here goes again.

I don't have any pics tonight but I'll get the camera out tomorrow. To answer your questions, Yes I have ants in my garden. I have three peony plants and that's where the action is. No ant or insect activity at all that I can detect on any of my ladies. I 'll have another good look tomorrow .

I'm trying to correct a high ph problem , wondering if it could be a deficiency problem, maybe calcium ? The plant that has it is a Jack Frost, one of four brothers I'm sad to say.Just waiting a day or so to be ultra sure before i discard them. I think I also noticed it on one of the others.

The other varieties I have are Northern Lights, Kali Mist/ Skunk Advanced, White Widow/ Sweet Tooth, Trainwreck , Purple Wreck , Durban Poison and Ak- 47. They're all in 4 gal. pots outside in my garden with lots of room to themselves. I move them around and turn them , so I don't think it is a directional issue for me.

Will check back tomorrow ,Have a good night!

Hi again dave.b,

I've taken a bunch of photos and also scoped some leaves. Can't tell for sure but I think i've spotted a few eggs on the underside. Kind of a green colour , very tiny and only a few. I also saw a couple of very minute dark (reddish specks) didn't see any movement of any kind, can't be sure what they were, if anything. I've got lilacs that are dropping pollen close by so that is a little confusing too.

So here are my pics, take a gander. If you can blow them up, you can get a pretty good look.

Hi GF sorry if I am a bit in late
Yes I'm agree that you problem looks very similiar to mine: I don'0t think it is due to a PH problem, or lack of nutrients (tap water usually has a ton of calcium or so ),

more, your leaves seems a bit gnawing, like mines.... I think they could be eated by aphids, or mites, or.... some kind of this stuff

in THIS POST I've found that ANTS could improve the number of aphids on a plant because "these insects produce honeydew while feeding on your plants which the ants just love".

If this is really the reason, You should see some ants on your plant, as I did......
I'm checking my plant in the next few days..... hoping she's just growing fine

Hi d.b.,
Well one of my problems is gone, I yanked him yesterday. I've trimmed the affected leaves off of the other one. It didn't have too many problem leaves so I've just been keeping an eye on it and snipping here and there.

Still haven't seen an aphid or an ant anywhere near my plant, so I tend to think something else is to blame.

Is it possible that spider mite damage looks like that? I've never had them so I'm wondering?

Anybody?? Feel free to jump in again? We're both stumped!
