How soon can I put seedlings outdoors? Right now they are in 16oz cups and have just broken ground 2 days ago. Should I put the in direct sunlight all day? Thanks.

If you have the capability, start them inside under CFL(s) to eliminate the possibility that they'll get slain real quick by pests or heat.

If you have to start them outside just make sure you keep them well watered and guard against pests..

You also may want to acclimate them with increasing amounts of sunlight per day if they're very young.

I agree with Random...but i guess it depends where you are growing and what your season is to some degree. (also depends on the variety you are growing), I keep mine in 16oz cups until they are at least 1 to1.5 foot in height before I transplant. This increases their odds of survival markedly.

If you do not have lights to get the growth a little more...just keep them in your cups until they get bigger, and keep them close at hand. Critters and insects can destroy seedlings in a few hours easily.

Also i do like to acclimate them for a few days, increasing the amount of sunlight a little each day. I take them back inside if severe weather is occuring.

Good Luck Kingseven!

If you are going to keep them under lights for a week or so...just correlate your lighting timing to match with your natural daylight conditions so when you transpant they are in the same light conditions....

Definitely wait until they're about to outgrow that cup since you have the option.. At that size, you might get away with no acclimation.
