Is something wrong with my plants?
permalink

Hey all I am sort of new to growing. Well I have these plants which I started indoors and I used Miracle Grow potting soil. The one that says feeds up to 3 months. Anyways I was using a 24 inch GROW fluorescent bulb. They are now outdoors. A friend of mine had started his plants exactly 9 days after mine were already seedlings. Meaning my plants are older. He started his outdoors. My question is, is there something wrong with my plants because his are like HUGE compared to mine and mine are older??? I have included pictures of them. The first picture is MY plant and the last pics are my friends. Please help.

Maybe overwatered? I have overwatered quite a few seedlings and they looked similar and grew slow.

Those plants will never thrive all growing in the same container. One plant per container!

your friends plants are bigger cause he has a better light than you do, LOL. the sun is as good as it gets. another thing is your seedlings have been in mg soil which has nutes. the first couple weeks of their lives no nutes are necessary. you should probably get them separated (as mentioned) and put them in something other than mg, not a fan! also, they have that stunted look to them. they may or may not snap out of it. sometimes they remain small and it's kind of a waste to keep going with them. you'll know soon enough. i hope it goes well.

Looks like a few problems there, not just with yours. Your friend has something munching away at his leaves and are getting a bit hungry.

Yours needs its feet dry. Thats a big pot for a small plant, how often are you watering?

Hi there! I noticed you are using mg soil. This may be causing some problems for you. I see some curled tips and misformed fronds, as well as some twisting. This leads me to suspect ph in some capacity. As for size, you mentioned you started yours indoors under flouro and he started outdoors later. The reason is this: the sun is exponentially more lumenous than your flouro. Even though he started later, his plants have been receiving more light than yours the whole time they have been in the ground. More light-more photosynthesis-more growth. Are you both planted in mg soil? Has he watered artificially? What is his (and your) water source? For example, if he has solely been using rainwater (or any for that matter) the ph of his soil will be different. Just so you know, your plant doesnt look all that bad! Youll do fine! Lots of good advise and info lives in the garden. Have a good one!

Yea thanks guys. I think I may have over watered now that I think about it. Also my friend says he waters when he feels the soil and it is not damp feeling. When my plant were inside I was watering like every other day so I think I may have been over doing it. Also about the nutrients in the Miracle Grow, like what else is good to use that I can buy at a garden store? Like I said I am fairly new to this. But all help is greatly appreciated.
