I've seen plenty of growers start seeds in 12/12 conditions. They grow a bit then start to flower. I have no idea why that wont work for you there as well, considering most of the weed you buy in that area is as well, grown outdoors under similar conditions.

Give it a go
Dig the hole wider then deeper, although deeper may benefit you with the lack of frequent rains
Amend the soil well so the roots can expand quickly into it and take advantage of any moisture there is

plan to water daily or every other and keep them happy.

good luck

I can see that you all recognize I am outside my comfort factor of playing god (I control the Sun, The Rain, The Temperature!)

And I am in a place that I have freedom to do what I want on my I choose on my own property. It is a bit heady.

Currently I have a lot of bag seed as I bought a pound of Cholo Weed (what we called brick weed back home.) My first thought was "plant it all!" Then I got myself back under control and realized I wanted some control over what I was growing. A kindly anarchist Professior has offered to get me "excelent" seeds but we shall see if that offer comes through.

At this point I am considereing the following -- Choose a selection form an abundant seed collection of thousands -- the top juicy 10 seeds to germinate (and yes I use a form of the paper towel method) and then plant among my patio garden where I do my test plants -- Ample water availability since that is where I test how much/little water I need to discern where I can spread the planting.

Now the big problem comes in the next few weeks as I have workmen and guests coming through. I'll be doing our next build out which will pull in bamboo workers to put up our Party Pavillion over the old tennis court, build a few guest bugalows going down the bluff to the beach, set up our spa facilities, build the Beach bar and re build our perimeter fence and gate to the beach.

And yes, you CAN visit me in Ecuador, just drop me a line.

That's my thinking too -- except I believe since it is all outdoor mountain weed that it may be mostly slow growing sativa based strains. Still looking for something Kushy that might spontaneously flower upon reaching a growing age.

I'm excited about going back to my first love ~ growing cannabis as an ornamental plant as they did back in the Victorian era. It is such an attractive plant! Has anyone else ever searched the word BONSAI here ...it is a wonderful read on a quiet afternoon with some wonderful ideas on creative topping.

By the way --definitely have to get the fence fixed...my rotti and boxer love to make mischief on the beach and Gina the rotti comes back with treasures (she steals people's shoes and clothes -- especially baby clothes usually some toddlers -- when they are swimming in the ocean!) Today she came back with lunch. Some deceased sea turtles fin. She's out gnawing on it on the front porch My 7 year old boxer boy from the USA wants no part of it (it's not from the stove, fridge, my plate or a bag it is not food!) but he is very impressed that his girlfriend is such a wild chica!

I have absolutely no advice for you, but would be very interested to see what would happen if you just go for it with what you have. I know of no other equatorial growers here at GC.

Any chance you can have a good convo about it with the "anarchist professor" you mentioned? See if he knows anything about growing locally?

Start your germinated seeds in paper/plastic cups, or similar. It will make it easier on you come time to transplant to your final spot. Easier to keep the parrots and birds away too. And for now you could keep them close to home so you can water them when needed.

You brought a flashback -- of blue and red 12 oz dixie cups and 6 week old plants desparate for repotting. Thanks

I need to get to a tienda de viveres at some point -- live plant store -- and get some soil (which they are happy to put in a burlap sack for you Snra. for 25 cents) I might treat myself to a few more rose bushes while I am out there. We are a rose capital too -- again it's that 12/12. Land of Eternal Spring. Been great for my seasonal affective disorder!

Well he said he may bike on by sometime. His knowledge of botany is limited, already picked his brain. he des say he has access to seeds but if they are anything more than bag seed, we won;t know til they are grown out right?
