Does anyone know what I can use to keep the grasshoppers off? Neem oil around here is like $30 plus for a small bottle! I got too many plants outside to buy a lot of that stuff. Any suggestions?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Having the same problem. I used some insecticidal soap (sold at walmart, lowes, etc. for $9) but I don't think it did much! I have just been flicking the little ones with my finger, then squishing them on the ground. As for the big ones (4+ inches) buy a pellet gun and shoot them like I do! ![]() Not sure if this works or not...but: From GrowGuide at top of page: "This is a recipe for an organic insect repellant that works pretty well with most insects. * 3 hot green peppers (canned or fresh) * 2 or 3 cloves garlic * 3/4 tsp liquid soap * 3 cups water Puree the peppers and garlic cloves in a blender. Pour into a spray bottle and add the liquid soap and water. Let stand 24 hours. Strain out pulp and spray onto infested plants, making sure to coat both tops and bottoms of leaves."

![]() | if you dont have a blender just dice that shit up bobby flay style. put the flat part of a blade on the garlic clove and pound on it with your hand until the garlic is all smashed then just chop that shit, same with peppers. the juices will seep into that water like insect assassins. try that shit on chicken too, minus the soap!

![]() | Here comes the cavalry! Lily miller makes a bait for grasshopper, meal worms, sow bugs, ear wigs and bunch of other stuff. Just sprinkle good distance from and around your plant and you are protected for 3 months. Go to a large feed store, or co-op. and ask for it. Its super cheap and a box lasted me 2 years. I think it was even on sale for like 5 bucks I Didn't think it would work so well, but for some reason it works awesome, completely satisfied with its results.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Soaps come in varying potency. In Safers braqnd there is three levels of soap. Insecticidal soap which is just fatty acids and no pyrethrins. Trounce which is both fatty acids and pyrethrins and finally End All which is higher fatty acids % as well as pyrethrin. Personally I use the trounce concentrate or an equivalent by another brand. Recently picked up this stuff. Scotts has an Eco sense line out now. They have an insecticidal soap as well as pyretrhin soap concentrate. Identical ingredients as Trounce. Except the Canola oil in scotts. Canola prevents molds so it can't really hurt. Scotts Eco Sense Insecticide concentrate I would also try Neem oil. Horehound plants also repel grasshoppers.
