Mary Jane Newbie - Problems with "strange" Lowryder 2
permalink

Hello,

a few months ago I've bought 5 feminized seeds of lr2. For various reasons (first of all: it's my first attempt and I'm not so great with any kind of green ) just one survived.

The seed germinated the last days of april and, as we know, lr2 is fast, not so tall (max 60 cms) and autoflowering.
Now, after more than 3 months still... nothing. Oh well, I don't know really
Even this one had some problems: one day I gave her too much nute (aboot 45 days ago... she was 35 cms.) and she was dying. So I took her out and washed her roots very carefully than I put her in a bigger vase (the one she is in now, about 6 1/2 litres).
With great surprise the girls started again to grow, so when she was about 75 cms I had to bend her. After the bend I thought that she would stop growing but...no. Now she is about 92 cms...

So, some photos and 4 questions:
1) What do you think about it? Isn't it strange that a lr2 grew so much?
2) Today I've seen something that seems a pre-flower? Is this it or no? (see last photo)
3) When do you think will I harvest? If I will ever...
4) If eventually all goes well, how much I'm gonna take from this long wait?

Thank you in advance for your answers and sorry for my bad english, now the photos:

I've had some LR2s that refused to flower till I got them outside into 12/12. One was like 3-4 feet tall and bushy as hell.

I'm not convinced that it's 100% autoflowering.

Hard to say - i keep second guessing myself as i'm looking.

I think the part he has circled is def. new growth and not a preflower, but i was inspecting the next node down. It's hard to tell at this point. I've heard a lot of weird stories about these rouge autoflower strains that just grow like regular plants? Maybe a certain phenotype?

Where did you get the seeds?

Yeah I am thinking there may be a recessive pheno that will not autoflower. Perhaps the f1 seeds are all autoflower, but anyone that has studied the whole mendel's chart knows that recessive traits can be brought out by further breeding. My plant that refused to flower was an f2 seed. It's possible that whatever the OP got was f2 generation seeds.

That said, by the way, the plant still flowered far faster than anything else I've done.

I agree it will still flower, might as well just let it take its natural course.

Sure sounds like its a pheno that didnt carry over the autoflower traits... My LR2 all autoflowered and were done in about 70 days total start to finish. That said if its outside all the time it will flower naturally later in the season (depending on your location august/september). Or you can bring it indoors and change your light cycle to 12 hours on 12 hours off to flower them now.

My LR2 didn't begin to flower until 60 days into growth, and I harvested at around 90 days into growth, so obviously sometime the autoflowering is delayed.

My own plants didn't take off until I started giving them more light - they were small enough to take outdoors during the day, and bring inside at night under either MH 400 watt or a combo of LEDs and CFLs.

My yield was smaller than I had hoped for, although I don't have final weight yet since they're still curing. But it was definitely a fun experience, and I'm already growing a second plant. I am also a newbie, at least with these specialized strains. 20 years ago I was growing bad seed in my closet - times have changed, though. Good luck with your girls! Based on your plant size, you should get a good yield.

@ PipeWorks:
really I can't remember the name of the web shop where I've bought these seeds. I can only say that was a well respected shop, reading on the web. For sure (if I will ever remember) I will not buy from them anymore: 2 seeds out of 5 didn't germinate.

@ random:
your info is really welcome: SHE WILL FLOWER, anyway . I'll let her do her course, hoping to have good results in september.

@ aepaepaep:
i live in Italy, so now the days are decresing their lenght. Hope I will see something good in september, as stated above

@ thc4me2:
as you can see I have the opposite problem: my LR2 grew too much I hope this will be good for the yield

Thank you all for your interest, I will be posting new photos soon
