Hey everyone...hope your grows are all going well! I was just wondering if anyone was located in the area of the US known as Hurricane Alley, and has had success with their plants riding out the weather? I know that it is basically impossible to know what a Hurricane will do, and with 2 named storms in the Atlantic, preparation is the only way I can prevent the loss of my girls. If anyone has any ideas on how to increase the chances of my girls' survival, it would be much appreciated. As of now, there are no storms threatening my location, but that doesn't mean shit (you know what I mean if you live here). They can turn quicker than a speed freak on a binge! As for my "garden"... The plot is about 8' x 8' and surrounded by steel fencing. The fencing separates a thick layer of under growth from my cleared patch, which is at least 4 to 5 feet tall. I figure this should break-up any winds from a storm, but only to a slight extent! I was thinking of buying some green plastic roof panels and attaching them to the fence as a wall. Only problem is, that should look fairly odd to any LEO planes in the area! So I am actually considering dropping a few trees next to my plot (just above the height of my fence) and using the timber to build some barrier walls a few feet back from my garden. I only have to 3 cardinal directions to focus on...as storms aren't coming from the north! Any advice is always appreciated...and if there are others like me (dodging hurricanes), I wish you guys luck...and safety! ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | what if a tree falls on your plot? well, either restructuring the fence (trying to make it more aerodynamic) and or strengthening it. also you could try to give the plants more of a low profile. but if the winds get under that, its more of a goner, mj has a pretty good structure for winds, but thats nothing to a strong wind. so if the fence is good, more low profile, lst or scrog. (using the whole fence as a scrog? wonder if that would be more of a camoflague or a red flag) some sort of earthworks as a windbreaker. of course a bitch to make unsuspicious. or to make at all ![]() difficult to deal with, hurricanes, but you worry too much. it should be allright. if the fence is strong and higher than the plants, you should be good.even if a little lower.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | there are a few large fallen trees from the last two storms that ripped through to the south of my plot. they do a great deal to deflect the winds. i guess my worst concern would be the torrential rains associated with the system. think the wind problem will be less of a concern than that. Is there a ground covering that I could use to absorb the water but not screw up the pH below? I don't even want to hear vince pop up on here with a sham-wow ad either!! LOL ![]()

It's true that no storm will approach from the north, but you know a hurricane has circular wind flow. If you get hit, as the storm moves over and past you, the wind direction will change a lot. Winds can come from the north! I have no wonderful solution for protecting your plot from the super-high winds of a tropical weather system, but dropping live trees just to protect your weed... I'm not crazy about that idea. Bad karma, dude! Any trees/large branches already dead and down in the area? If you can build a barricade from that, it would surely help some. I think the undergrowth will serve as a wind break better than you might think. I also think that solid panels will work to an extent, but at a certain wind speed they will blow away. But if the wind gets that bad, your plants are probably history anyway, and you will likely have bigger problems, like keeping yourself & family safe! I just checked on the current storms. Ana is falling apart, no worries there. Bill is turning into a big one, but looks like it will stay out to sea. Then again, you never know with these damn things. Best check at least daily to make sure...

![]() ![]() | Man when the hurricanes came through my region we lost like 10 orange trees and several other trees, and we got hit by T.S or weakened hurricanes, nothing like what the E.C. or LA/TX G.C gets.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | if there is a purpose behind it, felling trees has no bad karma attached to it. you are nature too, doing what you need to survive.(imagine your life without weed (just the weed, not the crazy folks in government and tell me you dont need it) but i would plant some new trees to replace the old ones. edit, oh dead trees, oh perfect, you can cut them down and use them to create a windbarrier. for the rain..you could dig a trench around the plot, so its higher., some drainage. depending on your rains, how deep. also could stake the plants for support.
