Do (fresh) seeds have to be dormant for a period of time before they can be germinated?

Basically they will have a nice hard brown shell.

Premature seeds have greenish/whiteish shells.

As long as the seeds mature, it can be popped right off the plant into soil.

Whether they are mature or immature seeds, they still have to have some dormant time before planting.

It is NOT advisable to use seeds taken directly off a plant and germinate them without them going through this dormancy grace period.

I 'think' it is 6 weeks but you might want to double check that

in Jorge Cerevantes book, Indoor Marijuana Horticulture, page 308, he says:

Squeeze them between your thumb and forefinger. If they crack, eat them or throw them away. If they are well formed and firm (they do not crack when squeezed) they're prolly good.

Seeds take anywhere from 3-6 weeks from pollenation to fully form and mature.
