Hey guys, brand new to this forum.

I live in the San Diego area, and was wondering if it was still at all possible to grow herb outside that could be harvested and used..

Daytime temperatures will stay in the 60's and 70's, and night time temps drop to the 50's. The skies are never cloudy, always perfect blue sky, so it's constant sunlight, even in the winter.

I've found a secure spot, and am waiting on getting seeds.

Possible, or no?

Any help would be appreciated.

It'll grow in that area for sure if you water it frequently enough in the summer. However, you need to know about flowering and pay attention to daylength anywhere in North America. Planting now will need some way of extending the day to prevent flowering.

Its a bit too late for us northern hemisphere folk. It's about harvest time everywhere, so I don't think now would be a good time to start a plant. It would flower from seed, and not yield you very much.

Start it inside and bring it out in early april and grow a monster.

I live in San Diego and have had excelent results this time of year..... however.. starting seeds this time of year won't work very well. The problem is that due to the short days they plants won't get to be in the vegatative stage very long. They will go straight to flowering and you'll be lucky to get a 1/8th off of each plant. Now if you get them through the seedling stage and veg stage by now you could flower and have some decent, not great, but decent results by Christmas.
Soon it will be too cold at night for the girls and the problem I've always run into this time of year is that damn marine layer.... that's why I didn't have anything going outdoors this year.. but damn the luck, it has stayed warm and there has been hardly any marine layer so far.. I should have done it anyway
Your best bet right now is to start the ladies under floro lights and get them going.. then tie them down (lst, look it up) and make them little bushes.. Then put them outside in the month of February. They will finish in May before the days get too long and cause them to go back into the vegatative state.
If you wait any longer than that the plants will likely just grow all summer and not flower until next August.. you won't be harvesting until October 2010.

Indoor growing in San Diego is pretty good this time of year.. If you had some rooted cutting right now you could harvest them as early as Christmas.
Good lucky and keep it green my man!

Just veg some plants inside and throw them outside when you run out of space.
