HPS or Floro?
permalink

I am going to grow outdoors but I'm starting my crop indoors for 2 weeks then moving them outside. I would normally use my floros that I have but my local hardware store just got some new 80 watt HPS bulbs. So should I use the floros or the HPS bulbs for starting them? Marijuana needs more of a certain kind of light ray at this age but I can't remember what it is.

Any help a stoner can get would be cool.

If I had enough floros to keep hovered 1" over all my sprouts and they were moving outside in 2 weeks... I'd save my money.

The HID-light consensus seems to be Metal Halide for veg, HPS for flowering.

hmmmm!

Powerlifter, here's my $0.02

Use the flo's to sprout, and when the babies are about 3-4 inches tall, pop em under the a couple of those HPS. They'll love ya' for it!!!

It doesn't say anywhere that you HAVE to have MH to veg. You Can veg with a combination of HPS and flo's!

Flick on the lights, get a fan in there, and off you go.

don't buy just an hps bulb unless you have a fixture (or light) to put it in. you maybe can think about buying a remote ballast hps grow light with the bulb included if you want for future indoor grows. certainly hps is the light of choice, but those floros should will work ok for vegging if you have enough of them. and for eric9990, the hid lighitng concensus for mj seems to me to be hps all the way. mh seems unneeded and less efficient than hps from here.

I think Mr. Hyde touched on something you might have missed, hid lights, hps, will NOT work without a ballast-starter system. If you go buy a bulb and try to put it in a light socket, you're going to be dissapointed.

you better duck. hps bulbs come with a warning not to put in a regulair incandesent socket for risk of implosion/explosion. P-lifter save your $ and just use a couple of flouros to start em off. they work fine for me. i try to let em get as much natural light as i possably can too, before they go outside.
