Hello there!

Ok... here is what is happening. I prepared the soil by digging up the ground and working up the soil. I mixed in Miricle-Gro Garden Soil and bone meal with a bit of soil at the site. I started the plants in a small Jiffy greenhouse with those Jiffy peat pellets and transplanted them to the site. When I went back a few days later the holes that I had dug and prepared the soil had been dug up and some of the seedlings were just lying on the ground, not eaten but tore out of the ground. What could be doing this and what can be done for it?

Ok this same thing had happened to me the other day to my plant, it was lying on the ground with the dirt all dug up. Your Plants are getting dug up by a raccon or fox. They are digging your plants up because they smell the fresh dug soil.
You can put some chicken wire around it, put human hair around the site, or put moth balls everywhere.

They're getting dug up because they smell the bone meal! The best thing is to not use it if it's a problem.

The same thing happened to my plant today. I don't have any bone meal though. I found little bulbs in the dirt. Looks like something was planted in it's place.

Actually its probally a Armadillo or a Opossum (if thats how you spell it)...unless its actually DUG up...

Armadillo's you can notice cuz they leave about a 3-5 inch hole in the soil. Chickwire would be great to put around the area...good luck!

Organics are bad to use outside right away because of the critters, it's better to prep your patch a while before you plant it so the animals can go through it and satisify their curiousity. Sometimes critters are attracted to the salts left by chems.
I think they are also curious as to what the turned over soil is all about, they figure they better check it out and make sure they aren't missing anything.
There's stuff available to keep animals away but I can't say yet how well it works.

I just had the same problem....I went out a couple hours ago and mine were dug up ...there was a hole about 6 inches across and 4 inches deep...i put them back but i dunno what else todo....

what about moth balls? Couldnt you put them in a circle all around your plants? I know for a fact they will deter any pests.

You can try em, but they haven't worked for me in the past....

I Had the exact same problem as you are having, but i planted clones which are much more expensive. I was getting really angry cuz EVERY night the stupid things where diggin up my plants and i would go down every morning and have to replant, this would happen for 3 nights back to back. I found out it was a skunk(i live in canada, Ontario to be exact) THen i was told to just throw a few moth balls in a circle around your grow site, and so i did, and ever since then my plants havn't been touched. I was also told though taht after animals dig up the same thing a few nights and find nothing they will move on, they were probably attracted to that bone meal or whatever it was you used. They might leave your site alone now, but if not use moth balls like me, man they stink but they keep away the pesky animals
