I want to do it right, and make no mistakes.

Basically, I want to make sure that when the time comes, I am going to GET bud off my plant.

Seeds are not a problem; I can get seeds from weed and friends and such. (And I believe that brown and green seeds are the kind I should get?)

But I do, infact, have a few problems.

I will be planting outside in some woods a few blocks from my house, but I don't know where exactly I should start digging (I don't know how to tell what's good soil and what's not).

I don't know what kinds of fertilizers to use, when, and how much of it.

Watering will not be a problem, there is a swamp 50 feet away and I'll be able to take water from there.

I live near Tampa, Florida and it is obviously warmer here than in most places of the US, so I assume this is a factor.

I don't know when to start planting. Can I now?

Also, about how long will it be from the time I plant it, to the time it buds?

I think that's just about it, I'll add more if I think of it.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Just read the grow guide man. It'll answer all those questions and then some. It's a long read but it's definately worth it.

While a warm climate is helpful, the length of daylight plays a crucial factor in determining when to plant seedlings and how/when flowering commences.
There are a couple of links in my signature that will be helpful for you as far as finding out the daylight/dark hours.

As far as growing in Florida goes I find that setting out the plants later rather than sooner is better. We enjoy such a long growing season that plants get humongous if set out too early, and sometimes too long a growing time inhibits flowering start-up.
I put my fall harvest plants in the ground around mid July.
Of course you can do it earlier if plant size is not an issue- they will still finish out at roughly the same time, though.. that daylight/dark thing again

You can grow out in Florida right now. I know somebody doing an outdoor grow in North Florida as I type this, and it's doing just fine.
