Hello everyone... Background info: I have an outdoor girl that broke ground in late May. She's sativa dominate and I have used the LST method to keep her height down with good effect. My main problems so far have been grasshoppers eating my leaves which haven't seemed to have a 'huge' effect. All my organic pesticides have failed. The outdoor temp has been very high lately, (100 degrees plus). I've been using ferts, but have been VERY careful to not over fertilize and if anything have under fertilized out of fear of burning up my only plant. The problem: As my girl has showed her sex, the ends of the pistils have turned brown and have a 'dried up' appearance to them. Obviously, the new pistils are two white hairs, but it doesn't take long for the brown to set it on say 85% of the length of the pistil. I am thinking that the heat is causing this to happen. Is this a problem? How will this effect the overall development of the flowers as the girl has leved veg stage and moved into flowering? I have also noticed what appears to be heat stress on the leaves as some have a slight curl to them, but many do not. I've kept her well watered, but have not over-watered as I wait for the pot she's in to completely dry before I give her a drink. Again, she's outdoors, so if it's heat, I have a limited range of options that I can consider to remedy the situation. I can move her into some shade is the first thing that comes to mind. My Questions are: Is is normal for the pistils to turn brown? If it isn't normal, and this is a heat related issue, what kind of problems can I expect to deal with during flowering? Thanks for your comments.

![]() | hey john, I have the same problem and it is because of the heat. I live in texas and also have pure sativas growing and although they grow better than Indica in the heat, both plants with not bud properly in any heat above 95*. My plants started budding around May and as soon as the temperature started rising the undevelped little buds started dying and drying on two of my girls then eventually fell off. The plants revegged I guess you would say putting out more green looking growth . You'll have to wait till the end of august when the light starts changing as well as the tempretaures getting cooler. Until then let those girls grow more, more growth more buds!! Unfortunately, the spots where the buds do die will have no more growth. Happy growingGuerilla Grower

![]() | Hey Sticky... she just started to flower maybe a week ago. There are no buds at all. Just two pistils at each node... these are the first pistils I've seen yet and are just enough to sex the plant from.

I have asked the same question for months. I live in uk. The weather over here is 100+ which is rare, it's usually crap. I planted too early and the pistils went brown, just as you mentioned. I was told that it was too early and the plants were confused during the spring equinox, the pistils are still brown, but, there are new white fresh ones developing rapidly. It took some weeks for this to happen and i nearly hacked em down for doing my head in! This only happened to 2 of my plants, the other 2 seem to be ok. Watch and learn, thats what i'm doing. It would be cool to compare over the growth period, both sets of plants to see if the affect is the same. There is nothing like knowing!

Well if you say you only have some scattered flowers I ask this question. Are the flowers right at the base of the stalks or are they starting to form clusters yet? The preflowers usually dry up and die. If you get the little buds(flower cluster) turning brown, this is due to heat stress. I have an attic grow this summer that has reached 110+ and I have noticed a little burning. Not much but some. Hope this helps. Peace
